ASEAN to Increase Local Currency Trade, Reducing Reliance on the US Dollar

May 12, 2023Posted by ASEAN BriefingWritten by Ayman Falak MedinaReading Time: 3 minutes
ASEAN members have agreed to increase the use of local currency transactions and push for a better regional payment connectivity, in a move that could be seen as a continuing shift in de-dollarization in the region.

At the 42nd ASEAN Summit, held in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, ASEAN members signed an agreement to push for better regional payment connectivity and the use of local currency transactions (LCT). The move is seen as the bloc’s strategy to transition away from established currencies used for trade, such as the US dollar.

The US dollar has been king for global trade for decades. This is not only because the US is the world’s largest economy, but also because oil and most commodities are priced in US dollars. However, since the Federal Reserve embarked on its aggressive interest rate hike strategy, central banks of developing countries have been forced to raise their own interest rates to stem the sharp depreciation in their currencies.

SINGAPORE: The economy grew in the first quarter of 2024 at its weakest pace in a year, dragged by slower expansion of the export-driven manufacturing sector, according to the final estimates released by Singapore’s Trade and Industry Ministry (MTI).

On a quarter-on-quarter seasonally adjusted basis, the economy expanded by 0.1% in the January to March period, slower than the 1.2% growth in the fourth quarter of 2023, the MTI said.

SINGAPORE – The first public housing units in Bukit Timah in about 40 years will be built in Turf City, as part of plans to develop 15,000 to 20,000 new homes on the former racecourse site over the next two to three decades.

The upcoming estate will be “inclusive and highly accessible”, with both public and private housing, said Minister for National Development Desmond Lee on May 23 at The URA Centre, where he launched an exhibition showcasing plans for Bukit Timah Turf City.

Mr Lee said the addition of public homes in Bukit Timah will meet “the growing aspirations among Singaporeans to live closer to their workplaces in the city”.

Biden will lose.
If Trump comes in, there could be peace in Europe. But very difficult to say. US does not want a powerful Europe and particularly Germany working closely with Russia.
But in middle East war may escalate with US coming in to quash anti Israel dissent. Maybe attacking or regime change Iran. Very difficult to say as China depends on cheap oil from Iran and Russia hence reason why Chinese industries are competitive.

Biden never won. The 2020 election was stolen.

And there will be hell to pay for all those who participated in that theft... foreign countries outside the USA were involved too. I wonder if this shitty little island had a hand in it too? :sneaky:
