Dumb Prof and Foreign Talent - A Bloody Disgace and shocking tale

Yes, Singapore is a great place to work as the opportunities are there. But the citizens are ignored.

Long, long,...ago when I was still a student in Canada, Spore representatives would visit to give talks about how good the job oppurtunities was back in Spore.

Even back then many male Sporean students didn't buy the "official" line. They have after all gone through NS.:) It's now of course very bad with cheap foreigners flooding Spore & the young of Spore are not stupid.

The damage done to Spore by the PAP may take generations to repair. How do you ask the millions of foreiners to leave Spore? More importatntly how many Sporeans want to return to Spore after experiencing freedom:confused:

Now major department in PMO with full time Perm Sec and they spend millions going all over the world trying to bring back Singaporeans. Here is the best part, they also target those students from HK, Malaysia etc.

That is not a bad thing, to try and bring back Singaporeans but I doubt they will come back.

If the opposition took over government and people like Chen Show Mao ask then to, I'm sure many will step up and come back to rebuild Singapore.

Doesnt help things when the children of Ministers are also overseas and not too eager to come back either...

Spock is absolutely correct. This is why I delight in macking on white chicks in front of Singaporeans.

.
Doubt that the money spent are targetted at Sporeans, more likely it's the foreigners they are after.

PAP of course cannot admit that the $$$ spent is targetted at foreigners only.

I've met many ex-Sporeans & their children and the only reason some will return to Spore is if they are paid expat pay packages.

There are many professionals that have done very well but have left our shores. When the govt was pulling the certificate of good conduct, they were surprised to see Malays among them. Subsequently people were asked to fill a survey form when they applied for a certificate of good conduct.

They were so desperate that they even approached Cape Malays and even considered Surinam. No success.

Yes, the Prof like many of us tend to follow the stererotype but most of us have the brains to be discrete. This idiot did not have much EQ.

I think I may know who is the Prof, but dropping his name is gonna kick up a ruckus. I heard from my grapevine about one Prof who is quite poor in terms of public relations, but just keep it as it is.

Actually the problem with the ones in power is the failure to address the problem head-on. Even the old man's remarks on malays before he apologises show a failure to grasp the salient issues concerning them. It's not about the issue of tradition religion-wise. Everyone has his own religious quirks.

What they fail to grasp I suspect are factors hindering social mobility, such as academic performance. In fact, the one who dared ventured into malay issues is Pritam Singh who talked about academic standards.

I guess the PAP's and I suspect at a higher level, the government problem is that they sweep the problem under the carpet, thinking goodies and welfare such as educational subsidies will help. That betrays the lack of understanding of the issues faced by the malays. One is social mobility, and the other is opportunities, e.g. career opportunities in sensitive positions.

The problem is no matter how much sweeteners or welfare is put in place, the problems will stay if they are not confronted. Nicole Seah may have apologised but I thought Pritam Singh was unprecedented in the sense that he acknowledged the issue in public, the part about Mendaki, and said something needs to be done. Even PAP couldn't muster a rebut.

After all, we sing Majulah Singapura.

U went to UBC?

Excellent write-up. Summed it up very well. Missed these kinds of discourse that was quite common in the good old days.

You know that a chill went up my spine when Pritam raised this because we all have been trained to accept that language and race is taboo and cannot be spoken outside except by old man.

Absolutely agree that we need to sit down and tackle this head-on. Boy am I glad that there sensible people like yourself still around. I used to give the shits to the Malay Intelligentsia and even do so today and they know I mean well and they too know that they are burying these things and hoping that it will disappear overtime.

Even the Indian community is sliding rapidly but the stats are tainted as they now include kids of FT Indians. Singapore Indians use to hold senior positions in Govt. Not anymore. The ones holding professional status are FT Indians.

Thanks brother.

Actually, even within our education system, whatever to do with race is swept under a carpet. I once saw a malay student highlight malay issues to his GP tutor (mind you this is JC level) and the GP tutor reprimanded him, telling him never to discuss racial issues in a GP essay.

The fact that Pritam pulled off his campaign well showed that tackling issues faced by racial groups head on isn't a poison chalice.

The problem is that Singaporeans are too used to status quo and comfort zone and want to stay that way. Even our educators are that way. I believe our military brass also think that way..no malays in our sensitive unit, lets stick to status quo, why trouble ourselves with change.

In fact, too safely ensconced that they think having to grapple with racial issues is rocking the boat.

That is why Pritam's successful handing of the racial debate will hopefully remove the wool from their eyes.

So what did the parents of this JC student do?
What did his classmates say?
What did this malay boy do after this setback?

You guys are typical useless Sinkies who don't do anything
KBKB all day but never take real action
:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

Go count how many Americans had to sacrifice their lives for racial equality

"Hahahahaha so what can you do about it? Hahahahaha"

what's so shocking?

reminds me of what EDB did in the early 90s when they invited some perm sec from SG to speak to the students at University of Oregon.

1st thing he said infront of all SG students is " You all should study engineering!Other subjects is useless."

of the few hundred students there, most are from the business faculty.:D

Someone should have told him that business degrees prepare you for a more varied career with the potential of higher pay.

It is also a better degree to have for quitting Spore which I bet many of the students intend to do :)

Truly insensitive. Can you imagine these are the same people who are doing policies for the country and people from all walks of life.

I suspect that Pritam is going to raise this in parliament. Old man shot down Viswa the NMP and shut the entire debate down and coveniently threw in the comments about Malays.

I see only one direction for this go for the Malays - up and towards progress. All these years, we all keeping quiet and the situation has only worse. If the Malay Mps can't be bothered, looks like Sikh has to step in.

Actually contrary to what most ppl think, if there is one issue that the opposition can best the PAP at, it is the malay issue. And it is because the PAP has played itself into the corner by having malay candidates who stick to status quo and not agitate for change.

If the opposition leads the way in the advancing of the malay issue, the PAP's loss of attractiveness to the malay electorate will be even bigger. Already there are malay intellectuals like Fahmi Rais coming forward, and mind you he was from Young PAP. Chap is now in SDP.

If the PAP malay leaders stay as they are whilst the opposition continually pursue the malay issue, sooner or later, the opposition's ranks will swell with malay leaders who want to agitate for change. I can imagine that there are malay leaders in the PAP's ranks who aren't happy with the government's reticience, but more likely their voices is drowned out by the party whip, and the party will loathe to have them as candidates. Fahmi Rais is just the first few waves. I suspect there will be subsequent waves later. Soon there will be a change of tide and the PAP runs the risk of loosing malay support if they still think "business is as usual", in Pritam's words.
