Many guinea pigs from Telok Ayer where the breakdown ocurred heading for Bugis entered the station as the signboard only indicated the Chinatown bound train was down.

And still many more entered the gantries without being advised about the breakdown. In fact there was hardly any station staff in sight. It was only when a whole group of passengers had gone down to the platform heading for Bugis that a filippino staff after some communication on the talkie talkie told veryone to vacate the premises. No advice was given and a whole group was just led to the bus stop and told there was a free shuttle ride. When the bus came, one of the staff tried to negotiate free rides for the passengers, thinking it was the free shuttle, However the PRC SMRT driver disputed openly with him. The driver refused to budge and many of the passengers, many of our true blue locals were resigned to their fates and paid for the fare by tapping their cards. Strangely, this same PRC driver, after one top and a few words of pleasantries, granted a fellow PRC couple to have their trip cancelled enabling them a free ride to their destination. When fellow passengers spotted this and approached him, he played the delay tactic by telling the other passengers to hold on until a few stops later with some unknown technical excuse. Eventually. due to his postponement, the card reader automatically kept displaying the message that time has exceeded the cut off period for cancellation while he pretended to activate the cancellation, trying to act dumb.

Earlier when the passengers went out of the station, the shutters were lowered immediately when it was barely near 10 p.m. and the staff told those attempting to enter it was closed. This is how bd the sutdown is and could not resume service for the remaining hours of operation.

From this incident on board the ‘new’ Made in China trains where the handles are already showing signs of tarnish and the flooring worn even barely 2 weeks into operation and the subsequent fare deduction from non PRC passengers, it is clear we have better put a stop to all these nonsense when the scores stand at PRC: getting part of 21 billion + 2 free riders , while Singaporeans : a lot of frustration and more fare deductions.
