STOMPer Stephanie witnessed a driver who allegedly swerved into the wrong lane at Duxton Hill and hit an old woman, but only got out to help her and agreed to offer her $70 as compensation after eyewitnesses asked him to.
Said the STOMPer:
"This incident took place along Duxton Hill.
"The driver of this white car was speeding and had swerved into the wrong lane, as you can see from the photos.
"As a result, his car knocked into an old lady and she fell to the ground.
"There were several eyewitnesses around, hence the driver had to get out of the car and help the old lady to the side of the road.
"However, he kept insisting that he wasn't at fault.
"The old lady did not ask for any form of compensation, but eyewitnesses were asking the driver to compensate her so that she could go and see a doctor.
"The driver wasn't willing to compensate as he felt that he wasn't in the wrong, even after several eyewitnesses argued with him and encouraged him to do so.
"He eventually relented and gave her just $30 at first but it was clearly insufficient to cover the old lady's medical fees.
"After much persuasion, he agreed to give her $70 as compensation.
"He then left the old lady standing at the side of the road and drove off.
"If there hadn't been any eyewitnesses to this incident, he wouldn't even have offered to compensate the old lady as she wouldn't have asked for it herself."
