Former Singapore Deputy Prime Minister S. Jayakumar is set to join local law firm Drew & Napier as a consultant in May.

Jayakumar, who was also previously Singapore’s foreign affairs minister and its law minister, will focus on expanding the 230-lawyer firm’s international law, international trade and constitutional law practices. He will also act as mentor to younger partners and associates.

“He will bring unrivalled experience and insight in the fields of international and constitutional law, as well as in other areas,” said Drew & Napier managing partner Davinder Singh. “He is someone who is universally acknowledged as one of the best legal brains of his generation.”

Jayakumar, 73, served as Singapore’s number-two leader from 2004 until 2009 and was foreign affairs minister from 1994 to 2004. Before that, he served minister for home affairs from 1985 to 1994.

Concurrent with those roles, Jayakumar also served as head of Singapore’s ministry of law for two decades between 1988 and 2008. He led efforts to turn Singapore into a center for the global legal profession, including the development of the Maxwell Chambers arbitration complex. He also developed the Joint Law Venture and Qualifying Foreign Law Practice programs governing foreign firm’s ability to practice Singapore law.

From 2009 until his retirement from politics in 2011, Jayakumar was senior minister, a position held by former Singapore prime ministers and deputy prime ministers.

Prior to becoming a politician, Jayakumar was the law dean at the National University of Singapore for six years until 1980. For four years until 1974, he was Singapore’s representative to the United Nations.

Prior to becoming a politician, Jayakumar was the law dean at the National University of Singapore for six years until 1980.

During which he wrote seemingly liberal articles, pretending to criticise pro-Govt Court rulings such as those in the Lee Mau Seng case. Lee Mau Seng was a member of the family owning Nanyang Siang Pau. The Old Fart accused Lee Mau Seng of being involved in "black operations" and detained him under the ISA. If you want a vague charge, you can't get better than this. The irony is Lee Mau Seng was an Anglicised member of this wealthy family - he couldn't read or write Chinese and Nanyang Siang Pau was a Chinese language paper.

Concurrent with those roles, Jayakumar also served as head of Singapore’s ministry of law for two decades between 1988 and 2008.

During which he became a compliant Ministar. Did absolutely nothing that is material to reform our criminal process. Places like New Zealand already allowed accused persons who successfully defended their cases to recover their legal costs since the 1960s. This part of the law has yet to be reformed to meet 1st World standards. So, during these two decades, this useless Ministar was basically a taxpayer funded Party Minion who did nothing meaningful for the People in the areas within his Ministerial portfolio. What's the term for that in Hokkien .......

Is this considered appropriate career progression for an ex-Senior Minister with his million dollar salary worth?

Since when is Inda-Ah-Nee Raa-Laa chiobu?

As far as Asterix is concerned, she is just another FUGLY Ah Neh!

Oh, I forgot, she orchestrated a performance of happy life for poor uneducated SINKIES in the heartlands, all at taxpayers' expense for the sake of the PAP's fugly faces. It still doesn't change the fact that her face is UGLY and needs some nip and tuck not to mention a change in colour.
