The imbecile LHL. His father wanted him to carry on the job of building Singapore. He somehow heard it as finish the job. He is definitely doing a great job in this, before long he will finish Singapore. Cronyism is shamelessly practised in Singapore. An ex- General without a single clue of operating a train company can be given the job of CEO of SMRT. Just in the same way that another ex-General was put onto the CEO position in NOL and only to truly finish the Company. These plush jobs are given to those who are blindly loyal to those in power, their abilities close to zero are not a criteria in getting the job. Sadly, 70% agree and condone to such practices. We are truly in deep shit.

PAP has something on najib. They are blackmailing him. How do you explain return of ktm land in singapore given away so easily. That was the first thing najib did when he took over.[/QUOTE

uncle: KTM was not given back to SG.

It was returned back in exchange for a plot of land in MS... then a 60/40 JV with TH-KZ Inc. ..

I believe ktm land was not exchange for a plot of land. It was exchange for share certificates of a company that owns the land. Just pieces of paper. And malaysia gahmen must dump money to develop the land with temasek.

Yes, but malaysia does not own the land.they were given 60% share. 40% belongs to temasek. In other words, they were given share certificates, not the land itself.

Now dr m announced hefty compensation to be paid to singapore if hsr project is cancelled.confirm that hsr benefits singapore, not KL. And project barely started.

yes, 60% share although 69% will be better. the long term interest to be paid for the east coast rail link (ecrl) project loan (as part of hsr) plus total capital will amount to about 50b ringgit (owed to prc) over the entire course of the project. there's penalty or a pullout fee with early withdrawal from the ecr project. so must stick lanjiao into cheebye and cannot climax and ejaculate for now. the current exposure now is about usd14b to usd17b. madhatter is proposing to renegotiate this unbalanced obor deal which is in favor of prc. prc's final objective is to bypass sg and use east coast of peninsula and malacca (port klang) as both commercial and military ports for their land-sea route from south china sea to indian ocean. the sg equation and withdrawal clause are peanuts compared to this deal with a conniving china. if ml intends to withdraw and cannot pay up the pullout penalty prc will propose a 99-year lease of the railway route and port just like they did to sri lanka. tiongs learned a hard lesson from the opium-pushing brits 2 centuries ago. tanwahtiu will agree. :p

the reality of an UMMO defeat never even pass thru the minds of the PAP ministers... you think they foresee the cancellation of the HSR ??

as I'm said earlier, there is nothing for SG to benefit in this HSR. ..be it short term, long term

both the rail projects are long term ambitions of China. . b cos of the strategic location of peninsula msia

Tun Dr M must illustrate and educate the world what is Strategic Value and Advantage of Malaysia in the region. It has better control than Singapore to the Straits of Melacca, because Singapore is only a tiny red dot, and Malaysia has more than 600km shoreline along entire Straits of Melacca. To choke hold the straits of shipping, Malaysia can do it from land even without any ships nor aircraft. Just land based radar and missiles can lock tightly the straits nothing will ever get through.

Put 30 radar sites along the Straits of Melacca, with 100 missile firing bases, Anti-Ship & Anti Air. Back up with mobile radar trucks hidden, just in case fixed radar sites got destroy, then fill up by mobile radars. Even 3 aircraft carrier groups can not bash trough Straits of Melacca alive. If Malaysia lay few thousand km of sonar listening belts / arrays, connected to shore vi fiber, even submarines can not pass.

Malaysia can CUT OFF Singapore entirely from the Asian Continent. Just demolish causeway and 2nd link and cut off all powerlines, pipe line fiber optics connections, ferry services etc. Lock it down this way for 10 years, there will nothing left in Singapore. Deploy 10 units of S-400 missiles in Johor entire Pee Sia is a solid no fly zone.

Sinkieland behavour in building up her defence armaments can be considered as aggression in the eye of her immediate neighbours. Sinkie defence budget was mind boggling S$14.21 billion. Msia and Indon didnt even spent so much on their defence even though they are so so much bigger in size than sinkieland. Had Sinkie neighbour been N Korea i think Sinkieland can kiss good bye. Here again proven that majority Muslims in Msia/Indon are peaceful believers in Islam. If they are aggressive/fanatics they wouldnt be sitting quietly and doing nothing. They would have demolish the causeway too if they are fanatics or warmongers, God forbid.

PETALING JAYA - The Malaysian government is looking at how it might reduce the compensation it has to pay to Singapore if it decides to drop the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore high-speed rail (HSR) project.

"The terms and agreement for the HSR are such that if we decide to drop the project, it would cost us a lot of money," he said.

"We have entered into an agreement with Singapore. If we break the agreement, we have to pay a very large sum of money."

The HSR is estimated to cost up to RM50 billion, and will slash the travelling time between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to 90 minutes when completed in 2026.

Most of the line - 335km of it - will be in Malaysia, with the remaining 15km in Singapore. The HSR will have eight stops - seven in Malaysia and one in Jurong East.

The Land Transport Authority called for tenders for the design and construction of tunnels and associated facilities for Singapore's end of the HSR last month, with construction expected to start next year.

Early this month, Mr Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal, chief executive of MyHSR Corporation, the state firm tasked with implementing the HSR on the Malaysian side, estimated that Malaysia could lose RM209 billion in gross national income if the project was scrapped.

Mr Lim Biow Chuan, who sits on the Government Parliamentary Committee for Transport, said on Saturday it would be a waste if the project were to fall through.

Going by what Dr M is implying, I think he plans to renegotiate the deal with Singapore by asking Singapore to pay more for the HSR.

Indeed, it is difficult to quantify the benefits in actual dollars value for both countries. The benefits calculations are not just simply that Malaysia have more HSR stations than Singapore so they stand to benefit more.

With HSR, Singapore will be able to spread its wings into inland Malaysia and take advantage of low manufacturing costs and proximity while Malaysia of course will benefit from tourists and businesses moving into their country. Singapore can build the second CBD in JLD that serves as a gateway to inland Malaysia and likewise Malaysia can do the same for Bandar KL. It is really a very potent opportunity for synergies and economic growth for both countries.

There might still be a chance for LHL and Dr M to work out a more equitable cost sharing arrangement that can move the HSR project forward. Everybody stands to lose if the HSR were to fall through.
