US President Donald Trump said on Monday that China will make a deal with the United States “because they’re going to have to.” China has lost trillions of dollars since he was elected president, added Trump.
In a telephone interview broadcast on CNBC Trump said that additional tariffs on Chinese goods will go into effect immediately if China’s President Xi Jinping does not attend the upcoming G20 meeting.
Trump defended his threats to slap tariffs on Mexico and China, which he said put the US “at a tremendous competitive advantage.”

“The China deal is going to work out. You know why? Because of tariffs … Right now, China is getting absolutely decimated by companies that are leaving China, going to other countries, including our own, because they don’t want to pay the tariffs.”
China is “going to make a deal because they’re going to have to make a deal,” Trump said.

The president criticized the US Federal Reserve for raising interest rates too quickly and giving the Chinese an upper hand in trade negotiations.
“They devalue their currency, they have for years: It’s put them at a tremendous competitive advantage. And we don’t have that advantage because we have a Fed that doesn’t lower interest rates,” Trump told CNBC. “We should be entitled to have a fair playing field, but even without a fair playing field — because our Fed is very, very disruptive to us — even without a fair playing field we are winning.”

The US president added: “Don’t forget: the head of the Fed in China is President Xi ... he can do whatever he wants.”
When asked if he viewed Chinese telecom giant Huawei as a national security threat or leverage in trade negotiations with China, Trump said it could be both.
“I do see it as a threat,” he said about Huawei. “At the same time, it could be very well that we do something with respect to Huawei as part of our trade negotiations with China.”

Beijing has accused Washington of engaging in “naked economic terrorism” against its trade partners at a time when the US has been trying to choke out Chinese tech giants from American markets under dubious pretext.
“This kind of deliberately provoking trade disputes is naked economic terrorism, economic chauvinism, economic bullying,” China's Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui said on Thursday, while outlining President Xi Jinping's trip to Russia next week.

The US escalated its trade war with China earlier this month by hiking tariffs on $200 billion worth of Chinese exports after months-long negotiations in the hope of averting a full-blown economic war between the two countries failed to produce a breakthrough. China hit back, announcing tit-for-tat tariffs on more than 5,000 American products worth some $60 billion.
While threatening to increase import tariffs on another $325 billion in Chinese goods, Washington has also been going after Chinese telecommunication giants, particularly Huawei, the leaders in 5G cellular network technology.

First, the 2019 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), signed in August 2018, banned the government from purchasing Huawei or ZTE equipment. Then, on May 15, President Donald Trump signed an Executive Order restricting access of “foreign adversaries” to American information and communications technology sectors. The same day, the Department of Commerce added Huawei and 70 of its affiliates to the trade blacklist. As a consequence, Google suspended Huawei from using its Android operating system. The move was followed by Intel, Qualcomm, and Xilinx, which stopped supplying components to the Chinese firm.

China, which wants the US to treat it as an equal partner, has repeatedly slammed American protectionist trade policies and has complained to the World Trade Organization. Huawei, for its part, remains adamant that Washington’s actions against the company are "illegal," and is taking the federal government to a US court.
“There are no winners in a trade war. No winners,” Zhang reiterated. “We oppose a trade war but are not afraid of a trade war.”

BEIJING: China is open for more trade talks with Washington but has nothing to announce about a possible meeting between the Chinese and US leaders at this month's G20 summit, the Foreign Ministry said on Monday (Jun 10).
US President Donald Trump has repeatedly said he is getting ready to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Osaka summit at the end of June, but China has not confirmed it.

US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Saturday that the leaders' meeting has some parallels with their Buenos Aires summit last December, which saw Washington postpone a tariff hike while the two sides resumed negotiations.
Speaking in Beijing at a daily news briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang again would not confirm such a meeting.
But Geng said China has noticed that recently the U.S. side has said many times it hopes to arrange a Xi-Trump meeting then.
"If there is concrete news on this, China will release it in a timely manner," Geng said.

On the trade dispute and talks about it, China's position is very clear, he added.
"China does not want to fight a trade war, but is not afraid of one. If the US side is willing to have equal consultations then our door is open. If the US side insists on escalating the trade friction, we will firmly respond and fight to the end."
As this year's Jun 28-29 G20 summit in Osaka approaches, Trump is preparing to launch 25 per cent tariffs on virtually all Chinese imports so far untouched by the two countries' tariff war. They would apply to a US$300 billion list of consumer goods including cell phones, computers and clothing.
Trump said on Thursday in France that he will decide whether to proceed with the tariffs after the meeting with Xi.
The Buenos Aires summit paved the way for five months of talks aimed at ending the festering trade dispute.
But negotiations broke down in early May, with the US accusing the Chinese side of reneging on earlier commitments. No face-to-face meetings have been held since May 10, the day that Trump sharply increased tariffs on a US$200 billion list of Chinese goods to 25 per cent - the increase that he delayed after the Buenos Aires meeting.
Since then, acrimonious rhetoric and trade threats between Beijing and Washington have steadily increased, especially after the United States imposed severe sanctions against Huawei Technologies Co, China's premier telecommunications equipment firm.

WASHINGTON/BEIJING (REUTERS) - US President Donald Trump said on Monday (June 10) he was ready to impose another round of punitive tariffs on Chinese imports if he cannot make progress in trade talks with China's President at a Group of 20 summit later this month.
Since two days of talks to resolve the US-China trade dispute last month in Washington ended in a stalemate, Mr Trump has repeatedly said he expected to meet President Xi Jinping at the June 28-29 summit in Osaka, Japan. China has not confirmed any such meeting.
Mr Trump said last week he would decide after the meeting of the leaders of the world's largest economies whether to carry out a threat to impose tariffs on at least US$300 billion in Chinese goods.
In comments to reporters on Monday, Mr Trump said he still thought the meeting with Mr Xi would happen.
"We are scheduled to talk and to meet. I think interesting things will happen. Let's see what happens," Mr Trump told reporters at the White House.
The United States has already imposed 25 per cent tariffs on US$250 billion worth of goods.

China's foreign ministry said on Monday that China is open to more trade talks with Washington but has nothing to announce about a possible meeting.

US-China trade war: China won't give in to an unequal deal

Tensions between Washington and Beijing rose sharply in May after the Trump administration accused China of having reneged on promises to make structural economic changes during months of trade talks.
The United States is seeking sweeping changes, including an end to forced technology transfers and theft of US trade secrets. It also wants curbs on subsidies for Chinese state-owned enterprises and better access for US firms in Chinese markets.
On May 10, Mr Trump raised tariffs on US$200 billion of Chinese goods up to 25 per cent and took steps to levy duties on an additional US$300 billion in Chinese imports. Beijing retaliated with tariff hikes on a revised list of US$60 billion in US goods.
The US government has also angered China by putting Huawei Technologies Co Ltd on a blacklist that effectively bans US companies from doing business with the Chinese firm, the world's biggest telecoms equipment maker.
Investors worry China will retaliate by putting US companies on a blacklist or banning exports to the United States of rare earth metals, which are used in products such as memory chips, rechargeable batteries and cell phones. Fitch Ratings said on Monday any such move would be disruptive to the US technology sector and could hurt some Chinese sectors as well, though it added that it was too early to assess potential credit implications.
In an interview with CNBC, Mr Trump said the Huawei dispute could be addressed as part of a trade deal with China.
DEAL WITH MEXICO
The escalating trade war between the world's two largest economies has unnerved financial markets with worries that it could further disrupt global manufacturing and supply chains and push an already slowing global economy into recession.
On Sunday (June 9), International Monetary Fund Managing director Christine Lagarde said resolving the current trade tensions should be the top priority for G-20 economies.
China reported on Monday its exports unexpectedly grew 1.1 per cent in May from a year ago despite the higher US tariffs, but imports fell the most in nearly three years. Some analysts suspect Chinese exporters may have rushed out shipments to the United States to avoid potential new US tariffs.

Trump defends deal with Mexico that critics say will do little to curb migrant crisis
Many US business groups oppose the tariffs, with companies worried about slowing demand as they pass higher prices along to consumers and manufacturers across a range of products.
Late last month Mr Trump said he would impose tariffs on Mexican goods if Mexico did not agree to take strong steps to curb the flow of mostly Central American migrants crossing the US-Mexico border. Washington and Mexico City reached a deal on Friday to avert the tariffs, removing for the time being at least the prospect that the United States would find itself in trade wars with two of its three largest trading partners.
Global equities rose on Monday and the US dollar gained against a basket of currencies. The Mexican peso rose more than 2 per cent against the greenback, reversing most of its losses from the past couple of weeks.
Mr Trump, who has embraced protectionism as part of an "America First" agenda, said on Monday the tariff threat on Mexico would be reinstated if Mexico's Congress did not ratify another part of the migration pact.

Original title: Former US President Carter: China is expected to become the number one superpower in the economy within a few years

On the 9th local time, former US President Jimmy Carter said that the current US President Trump had called him and expressed his concern about China surpassing the United States. Carter told Trump that the United States has been busy with war for many years, while China is committed to economic development and improving people's livelihood. The correct concept of a superpower should be whether it can provide a better life for the people.

On the same day, Carter mentioned in a speech to the public in his hometown of Georgia that Trump called him a few weeks ago and frankly stated that the main purpose of his call was to discuss China's problems in many aspects over the United States. Carter told Trump on the phone that after the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the United States in 1979, the United States spent about $3 trillion on the ongoing war for many years, while China invested a lot of money in high-speed rail and other Huimin projects. In addition, Carter also For example, the life expectancy of a baby born in Beijing is five years longer than that of a baby born in Washington. China is expected to announce in the near future that China will no longer have severe poverty. China has expanded its wealth from the East Coast to other places, and China has made rapid progress.

Carter said that China is likely to become the number one superpower in the economy in the next few years. Carter also stressed that the superpower cannot simply understand that it has the most powerful military force, but that the country can become a leader in creating a better life for the people.

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, June 10th: Global trade under the headwinds China's foreign trade growth of 4.1% in the first five months

Xinhua News Agency reporter Liu Hongxia

The General Administration of Customs released data on the 10th. In the first five months of this year, the total import and export value of China's goods trade was 12.1 trillion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4.1%. The insiders believe that under the "backwind" of protectionism, China's foreign trade "winds up" and develops steadily. This is the result of China's insistence on expanding its openness and injecting more certainty into global trade.

In the large plate of 12.1 trillion yuan, the export was 6.5 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.1%; the import was 5.6 trillion yuan, an increase of 1.8%; the trade surplus was 893.36 billion yuan, an increase of 45%. Zhuang Wei, deputy dean of the Institute of International Economics of the University of International Business and Economics, said that from the first quarter, foreign trade increased by 3.7% year-on-year to 4.1% in the first five months. It is not difficult to see that the development trend of China's foreign trade growth has not changed. In the light of the big environment, such achievements are hard to come by."

From the perspective of trading partners, China's import and export growth in major markets such as the EU, ASEAN and Japan, the growth rate of imports and exports of countries along the “Belt and Road” is higher than the overall.

Specifically, in the first five months, the EU was China's largest trading partner, with a total trade value of 1.9 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.7%, accounting for 15.7% of China's total foreign trade. ASEAN is China's second largest trading partner, with a total trade value of 1.63 trillion yuan with ASEAN, an increase of 9.4%, accounting for 13.5% of China's total foreign trade. China's total import and export of countries along the “Belt and Road” region was 3.49 trillion yuan, an increase of 9%, which was 4.9 percentage points higher than the national overall growth rate, accounting for 28.8% of the total value of foreign trade, and the proportion increased by 1.3 percentage points.

Zhuang Wei noted that the trade between China and ASEAN has achieved sustained and strong growth in recent years, which is closely related to the promotion of the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area.

“The rapid growth of trade with countries along the Belt and Road Initiative also shows that China’s continued efforts to promote trade facilitation are achieving benefits that benefit all parties,” she said. “This is especially true in the context of current global globalization. valuable."

At the same time that foreign trade has progressed steadily, the characteristics of stability and quality improvement are also emerging. In the first five months, China's general trade import and export was 7.25 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.1%, accounting for 59.9% of China's total foreign trade, an increase of 1.1 percentage points over the same period last year. Import and export of processing trade was 3.02 trillion yuan, down 2.4%, accounting for 24.9%, down 1.7 percentage points.

The activity of private enterprises is also rising. In the first five months, the import and export of private enterprises reached 5.02 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.1%, accounting for 41.4% of the total value of foreign trade, an increase of 2.6 percentage points over the same period of last year.

Positive factors supporting China's foreign trade stability are gathering, but we must also see that global uncertainties and uncertainties are increasing, and subsequent pressures and challenges remain. In the report released by the World Trade Organization in early April, the global trade growth forecast for this year was lowered to 2.6% from the previous 3.7%. International organizations such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund have recently expressed that the world economy is at a "subtle moment."

The industry believes that in order to achieve stable and improved foreign trade, it is necessary to make efforts in optimizing the international market layout, optimizing the domestic regional layout, optimizing the commodity structure, optimizing the business entity, and optimizing the trade mode.
