According to SANA, one officer was killed and two others were injured in the attack on a military site east of Khan Arnabeh in the Quneitra countryside. It added that the Syrian Air Defense attacked an unmanned aerial vehicle that entered Syrian airspace near the southern suburb.
Israeli Defense Forces claimed that it was their jet making a routine flight in northern Israel that came under fire. The Syrian anti-aircraft missile missed the warplane and it was able to complete its mission successfully.

A launch site responsible for the attack was identified on Syrian territory and hit by Israeli missiles in retaliation, the IDF said.

An IDF plane being targeted in Israeli airspace is a “a violation of Israeli sovereignty” in the Golan Heights by Syria, it said, calling the attack “abnormal.”
Israel captured the Golan Heights from Syria during the Six-Day War in 1967. It has remained under Israeli control since then, despite the UN calling it an illegal annexation. In March, US President Donald Trump signed a declaration recognizing the Golan Heights as part of Israel, but the move sparked harsh international condemnation.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also commented on the incident, saying that “the Syrian military tried to attack an Israeli aircraft and failed.”
Israel has been frequently targeting Syrian military installation during the conflict in the country, saying that the bombings were aimed at deterring Iran and Lebanese armed group, Hezbollah, who are allies of Damascus in fighting the terrorists.

"We operate every day, including yesterday, against Iran and its attempts to entrench itself in the region," Netanyahu said as he was about to depart to the Middle East conference in Warsaw, Poland on Tuesday, confirming a Monday attack on Syria's southern Quneitra province.

Netanyahu has accused Iran of entangling itself in Syria to later use it as a springboard for attacks on Israel. The Israeli PM pointed out that Iran has ramped up its rhetoric against the Jewish State as it continues its bombing campaign in Syria.
The Israeli leader has vowed to annihilate the Islamic Republic if it follows through on its threats.
"Iran is issuing threats against us. On the fortieth anniversary of their revolution, they threatened to destroy Tel Aviv and Haifa. I said that they won't succeed and if they try it will be the last anniversary they celebrate," he said.
Last month, a senior official with Iran's influential Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned that Tehran would erase Israel off the map if it "does anything that leads to a new war." The warning came after the Israeli Defense Forces launched massive strikes against IRGC forces in Syria.

Iran’s strategy is to annihilate Israel if they ‘do anything that leads to war’ – top general
Since the onset of the Syrian conflict, Israel has been routinely bombing the Syrian territory on the pretext of targeting Iranian proxies there, including Hezbollah. The attacks have been condemned by Damascus as a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty.
The latest such assault took place on Monday evening, with Syria's state news agency SANA reporting that Israeli artillery targeted a number of sites in Quneitra province. The agency reported, citing a source, that the Israel pelted a destroyed Quneitra hospital with 4 missiles and hit a security post, causing material damage.
The frequent incursions into Syria by Israel have drawn a stark rebuke from Tehran, which last week warned of "crushing and proportional response" unless Israel stops its unmitigated bombing campaign.

The attack caused “limited damage” at some of the army positions in the vicinity of the towns of Hader and Tell Kurum, the Syrian Arab News Agency reported, providing no further details of the incident.
The IDF soon confirmed targeting sites in Syria, claiming it was their response to a drone infiltration earlier on Wednesday.
“The IDF targeted three military posts in Syria in response to the infiltration of the Syrian UAV into Israel that was intercepted by the IDF earlier today,” the IDF said, posting footage of the strikes. “The IDF will continue to operate determinedly and decisively against any attempts to hurt Israeli civilians and breaches of Israeli sovereignty.”
Noting that the Israeli military is prepared for many different scenarios, the army stressed that it holds the Syrian government “accountable for the actions carried out in its territory and warns it from further action against Israeli forces.”
Earlier on Wednesday, the IDF used a Patriot missile to take down a surveillance drone that allegedly penetrated some 10km deep into the airspace over the occupied Golan. A similar engagement was witnessed on June 24.
Israel has intensified its bombing of military infrastructure in Syria over the last couple of months, despite the conflict winding down, with terrorists and extremist militants controlling ever-decreasing swathes of land and so-called ‘moderates’ joining the state-wide reconciliation process in growing numbers.

Arguing that the Iranian presence in the Arab Republic and its strong foothold on its borders jeopardizes national security, Israel reserved the right to strike Iran-affiliated targets and weapons shipments destined for Hezbollah.
While the IDF does not comment on every engagement on its neighbor’s territory, previously acknowledged targets by Israel in Syria included weapons storage facilities, logistics sites, and intelligence centers.

The government of Bashar Assad views the Israeli hostility as a violation of the nation's sovereignty, arguing that strikes only help the terrorists on the ground. Damascus also repeatedly denied that the Iranian military has any significant presence in Syria, noting that only the Islamic Republic's military advisers are currently present on the ground.
