6,000 NDP performers in larger than life costumes
NDP performers dressed as huge mascots will dance, run and even cycle in the show

<!--background story, collapse if none-->SPECTATORS DISAPPOINTED FUN PACK SONG WAS DROPPED
The NDP ditty that hit the wrong note was canned but many in the 27,000-strong crowd at yesterday's National Day Parade rehearsal still felt disappointed they did not see it performed.
The Fun Pack Song, a rip-off of Lady Gaga's hit Bad Romance, had celebrated items in the parade's goodie bag - such as biscuits, sweets, wet tissue and Newater.
But although the organisers had permission to perform the song, they did not seek the rights to modify the lyrics. The song has been dropped.
Yesterday's spectators had differing reasons for wanting to hear it. Some liked it and looked forward to singing the ditty while others wanted to hear how bad it was.
'Thankfully, the organisers decided to drop it. Let's just come up with our own song instead of ripping off from someone else,' said Mr Prakesh Vatchira, 21, who will start his national service in November.
A clip of the performance of the Fun Pack Song, posted on YouTube on July 2, was criticised by netizens.
Yesterday, some spectators were seen giggling away as they leafed through the NDP commemorative book in the pack, which still has the lyrics of the Fun Pack Song.
Ten-year-old Firdiana Seriprianti pointed out that Lady Gaga herself liked it.
'But never mind, I'm still looking forward to a good show,' said the Primary 5 pupil from MacPherson Primary School.

Performers wearing huge letters on their heads, to represent typewriter keys, at the NDP rehearsal yesterday. There will be more than 800 props, life-size puppets and mascots at this year's parade. The aim is to give an Alice In Wonderland look and feel to the Aug 9 spectacular. -- ST PHOTOS: NEO XIAOBIN

BEDECKED performers at this year's National Day Parade (NDP) show segment will literally sweat it out for the nation when they go on stage on Aug 9.
Part of the group of mascots, they will dance, run and even cycle in the 50-minute musical.
Set to thrill spectators, the 260 mascots - the most in NDP history - will include larger-than-life steamed buns, milk bottles, chillies, satay and cookies.
For the performers, moving and jumping in sync with the music in the mascot costumes, which weigh up to 2kg, can be quite an effort.
For instance, there are 11 steamed bun or 'bao' mascots who will be jumping on trampolines 'dressed up' as dim sum steamers.
One such 'bao' is Mr Timothy Chan, 20. He will be bouncing in the white bulbous costume for about a minute as the 'steamer' rolls along the 160m by 20m road in front of the spectator stands. 'We will be drenched in sweat by the end of the item, but it'll be fun,' said the taiji practitioner.
