SEOUL - SOUTH Korea's 2010 trade surplus reached an all-time record US$41.7 billion (S$53.6 billion) thanks to strong exports, a government report showed on Saturday.
Exports rose 28.6 per cent on-year to US$467.4 billion, with imports moving up 31.8 per cent to US$425.7 billion, the Ministry of Knowledge Economy said.
The previous South Korea's trade surplus record was US$41 billion set in 2009.
For December, exports jumped 23.1 per cent on-year to US$44.3 billion, with imports gaining 23.3 per cent to US$40.6 billion for a US$3.7 billion surplus. -- AFP

Korea's emphasis on R & D is paying off. Sinkie sheep have the best test scores in the world. But where's the Sinkie equivalent of Samsung? Korea has K-Pop, we have mediacock. Sinkieland's economy is entirely based on drudgery. MNCs set up here, they tell Sinkie sheep what to do, Sinkie sheep follow earnestly. No innovation, no critical thinking. Sinkie sheep are no more than glorified coolies. I'm glad to count myself as a quitter :D

The title should be "Does KOREA need to replace ..."

The word "Korean" refers to a person who hails from Korea.

Alternatively, the title can also be "DO Koreans need to replace ..."

Sam Leong where are you?

You promised to eridicate Singlish.

Don't just stop with 'advice and advise'

Well PAP has always emphasized on quick results but never the long-term results. Bringing in foreigners do boost GDP up but at the expense of social security and patriotism. It is no doubt that homogeneous nations like Japan and South Korea are facing a form of crisis due to the rise of PRC, but history has shown that these two groups of people will always fight back when cornered and become better. Just look at how Japan improved from the ashes of WWII.

One question, what is the population of South Korea?

You got to hand it to the Koreans. Without importing foreign trash, they are still able to display innovation and provide value for money in their products. Samsung for instance kicks the ass of Creative Tech.

Right, Samsung is very innovative. Actually Creative was great too, just that it did not catch with this fast moving tech world.
