Being approached by ISD will not lead you to be knowledgeable about their work. If ISD can convert you, so can others. They never trust their sources. As a matter of fact, source cover source and vice versa.
ISD works on a 'need to know' basis. You don't get anything out from ISD officers even if you are related to them. These chaps are afraid of their own shadows and even they themselves avoid divulging personal matters on the phone. Some dare not even admit to their close friends they belong to ISD, even ex-colleagues from SPF. They always claim they are from "Police HQ'.
To know the organisation, its structure, roles and responsibilities, scandals etc, you need to be in it before.
I have to agree with most of what you say except the last part. You don't need to be in it before you can know the organization, its structure....etc. There are ways to get to know these without being part of them.

That botak Siew Kum Hong may also be ISD agent. He very interesting and rose to become sort of titan among intellectuals critical of the government. I remember during his NMP term, he sibeh hiong always urged for more democracy, transparency, freedom of speech and expression, film censorship and repealing gay sex law. That botak joined Maruah as a founding member when he was still NMP in 2007. Remember that Maruah was started under the auspices of ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission for Human Rights. Also interesting was that he did all these while still keeping his job as a legal counsel. He got good boss man. Credit to him, he has said controversial things smartly and always within very flexible reason so as not to get himself into trouble. Yet say so much and didn't get into trouble?
Recently from Wikileaks, that botak was listed as a "protect" source of the Yankees giving his piece on political development in Sinkieland. Is he Yankee agent? Or sent in as trap by ISD as ISD knows Yankees want to recruit lawyers like Francis Seow's time?
