Doctor found guilty of molesting patient

SINGAPORE: A veteran general practitioner who touched his patient's breasts on two occasions was on Friday found guilty of molestation by a district court.
70-year-old Winston Lee Siew Boon had been accused of molesting his patient when she visited Thong Hoe Clinic at Bukit Batok Street 11 in June and October 2011.
She was 34 years old at the time.
In convicting Lee, District Judge Lim Tse Haw said he found the victim's evidence to be unusually convincing, and that she had no motive to bring false allegations against the doctor.
"She first had to recollect her emotions before giving evidence. Her emotions were real and telling, and not contrived," he said.
In contrast, Lee had been shown to be an untruthful witness, the judge said.
During the trial, the court had heard that on the first occasion, the victim - then a sales representative - had visited Lee's clinic complaining of nausea and flatulence.
The doctor asked her to lie down on a bed and she complied.
After he checked her stomach, the victim then complained of chest pains and asked if she could still exercise.
It was then that Lee slipped his hand inside her bra and squeezed her breast.
She did not think anything of this as she thought it was part of the medical examination since she had complained of chest pains.
It was after her fourth visit to the clinic - when Lee squeezed her breast twice while discussing weight management - that she lodged a police report.
She said the incident left her "shocked and confused" and that she had sought advice from her friends to make sure she had not assessed the situation wrongly before lodging the report.
Lee's case has been adjourned to 23 April for the prosecution to make submissions on sentencing. - CNA/xq
