The position of "leader of the opposition" is enshrined in the Westminster system which Singapore inherited from the British.
You can reject the perks but not the position.

It's because in 2011, there were only 6 elected oppies. Now, there are ten elected oppies from 3 different wards and two more non-WP NCMPs from the Water Closet WC.
