China denies censorship, persecuting minorities
1 hr 31 mins ago

GENEVA – China is denying claims that it censors the news.

Chinese officials have told the U.N. Human Rights Council that its citizens are free to voice their opinions to the press, and any harassment of journalists is punished.

The statements in Geneva contrast starkly with claims by international human rights groups, which accuse Beijing of suppressing public dissent.

The Chinese delegation led by ambassador Li Baodong also told Monday's meeting that the government opposes torture and would never allow it to be used against ethnic or religious minorities.

Groups such as New York-based Human Rights Watch say they have extensively documented cases of abuse in the Tibet autonomous region and elsewhere.

before we laugh at PRC , we should be looking at our own backyard.

"Chinese officials have told the U.N. Human Rights Council that its citizens are free to voice their opinions to the press, "

well, in singapore, the journalists colluted with the gov to supress free speech, they have the censorship chip in their brain. At least in PRC, some journalists are free, sink city, all are corrupted.

"and any harassment of journalists is punished."

too much power are with the police and courts, again the situation is same if not worse in sink city.

actually i was doing a parallel comparison between 2 predominantly Chinese societies..
