Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Grace Fu has said that the government is concerned about the lack of diversity in schools, with those from elite schools and neighbourhood schools not mixing.

But guess what, the diversity deficit has been there for as long as one can remember, so the government’s sudden concern is a mystery.

It smacks of a top down problem. So let’s start by looking at the top, at who sits in the Singapore cabinet, where the elitism starts.

From Catholic High School we have the likes of PM Lee Hsien Loong, Lim Swee Say and Gan Kim Yong. From Anglo-Chinese School we have luminaries like Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Ng Eng Hen, Vivian Balakrishnan, Khaw Boon Wan (ACS Penang) and Tan Chuan-Jin (ex-Minister, now Speaker of Parliament). And Raffles Institution has produced the likes of Goh Chok Tong, K Shanmugam, Chan Chun Sing and Lim Hng Kiang.

It’s the story of elitism running deep throughout the political arena and the upper reaches of Singapore society. Not just the men but the women too – Grace Fu herself hails from Number One ranked Nanyang Girls’ High School. Why are we not surprised?

The PAP created elist schools with stuff like the Gifted Education Programme, SAP for Chinese, now IB and and no-O Levels for students. Not mixing of elites and famrers was their plan.

Nothing has changed it's perfectly normal for those from elite schools to not want to mix with the dregs of society.

In the old days those of us who came from mission schools looked upon government schools with utter disdain. The current situation is just a continuation of this long standing attitude.

The cream rises to the top for a reason. It is to get away from the scum of society.

agree absolutely, great anticipation as the cream is rising; the best is yet to be

KNN you expect a minister to mix with an ah beng or ah lian? Where is disgraceful's O levels graduate friends?

Double speak, double headed hypocrites. I'd rather they don't talk about this, when it's obvious they see themselves as elites.

Totally agree .
Not just that. The intellignet ones will not mix with the stupid ones.
The educated ones will not mixed with the uneducated ones .
The good looking ones will not mixed with the ugly ones.
Those who can get women easily will not mixed with those unwanted by women.
Amd finally , the young ones will not mixed with old farts.
