Director Wong Tin-lam dies

Famous Hong Kong film director Wong Tin-lam, the father of Wong Jing, died of old age on Tuesday. He was 82.
Wong Jing, also a popular director, announced of his father's death in a statement and said the octogenarian passed away peacefully at 8.20pm.

Uncle Tin-lam, as he was known as, was born in Shanghai, China. He settled down in Hong Kong when he was seven. He entered the movie industry at 19, and shot his first movie The Flying-sword Hero from Emei Mountain three years later. In 1959, he won the Best Director award at the 7th Asia Pacific Film Festival.

Uncle Tin-lam joined TVB in the 70s, and had produced many classic series including Yesterday's Glitter, Love and Passion, The Shell Game, Legend of the Condor Heroes and The Return of the Condor Heroes. He eventually retired from directing films in the 90s, but still made guest appearances in many films.
