In the first place, taxpayer's money should not be used to subsidy any private company.

I APPLAUD the Education Ministry for making the Primary 1 registration exercise more beneficial to citizens. The National Development Ministry also has policies to distinguish between citizens and non-citizens.
While I agree to some extent with our immigration policies, every country has policies that benefit their citizens more. In this regard, transport is one area where more could be done.
Currently, other than senior citizens, children, students and full-time National Servicemen, everyone pays the same for public transport.
The operators are forced to keep fares affordable that they are unable to spend significantly to improve service. Consequently, S$1.1 billion in taxpayers' money has to be used for this purpose.
This is not sustainable in the long run. The authority should consider increasing fares for non-citizens to a sustainable level.
This would not only allow the transport companies to have more funds to improve service but, more importantly, citizens would feel even more that they are being taken care of in Singapore.
This move could be done by issuing citizen-only ez-link cards that automatically come with lower fares.

I would like to first point out I also applaud the changed made for Pr 1 registration, but I to compliantly disagree with this statement listed above.
Since non-citizens (PR or not PR) still pay tax why should they have to be double taxed by increase of prices for the same service from a private company. Normally for a higher cost you expect better service would this be the case on the buses and MRT?
Being a higher paying customer will that grant the right to get a seat or evict a lower paying person from a seat? Where will it stop? non citizens have to go to the back of the bus and a sectioned off area?
