Understand that most SG Lawyers are reluctant / cannot practice in Malaysia.

How to find a Trustworthy Lawyer, in Johor ?

For Property matters, ..litigation,..etc.,...

Inspite of SG & Malaysia inheriting the British Legal system,
How much difference are the Law, Lawyers between the two Nations ?

Any Tariff ?
Market Hourly Rate ?
Etc,..

Thanks

.

Understand that most SG Lawyers are reluctant / cannot practice in Malaysia.

- Not 'reluctant' but 'cannot'
- Some lawyers can practice both My and Sg, mainly malaysian studied in Sg
- Why you want one lawyer practice both sides?
- If you have 2 lawyers, one on each side, you can pick brains of 2 lawyers, no?

How to find a Trustworthy Lawyer, in Johor ?
- Trustworthiness is a function of the value involved, most are honest when sums of monies are small
- Capabilities, aggressiveness, energetic more important than trustworthiness
- Control trustworthiness by limiting sums held by lawyer
- For conveyancing, other than retaining 2% payable to CKHT, make purchaser pay option fee to your name, deposit to your name, balance purchase price to your name
- If purchasing, pay stamp duty last minute, get receipt soon, don't dily daly
- If title deed with you, do not surrender too early to lawyer, wait to last minute under terms of agreements, if with bank, not your problem
- If lawyer don't agree to draft agreement to above clauses, look for another lawyer
- Get bigger firms, more lawyers there are, better the chance to recover your money
- Put everything down in writing, emails or fax also can, anything but just talk talk talk
- Lawyers like to phone you or go office to get instructions or give advice, if so, follow up with acknowledgement for important stuff
- Don't be complacent, stay on top of the matter yourself, be diligent, keep tab
, it's your money

For Property matters, ..litigation,..etc.,...

- Too broad a question
- Not profiling please, but generally non-chinese better at litigation, gift of the gab i suppose
- There are specialists in every field of law, need to determine needs first, then go source for correct specialists
- If high level criminal matter, can use Anwar's team ex federal judge :D

Inspite of SG & Malaysia inheriting the British Legal system,
How much difference are the Law, Lawyers between the two Nations ?

- After 50 years, very different now
- Show your Sg lawyer a Malaysia conveyancing agreement, bet you she will not grasp the procedures nor fully understand the terminology
- Even Malaysian lawyers don't fully grasp their own law, regulations and procedures, really, no joke

Any Tariff ?
- For what?
- For conveyancing, go check up Malaysian Bar and Singapore lawsoc websites for rates

Market Hourly Rate ?
- For what? litigation? divorce? civil suit? criminal defence? traffic summons? shipping accident?
- Rates all quite different

Etc,..
- Don't be cheapo and ask for discount.
- Pay deposit to lawyer, make them feel secure you don't run road yourself, if very big deal, pay more deposits, but progressively
- Want good service and good response time, pay for it
- Tell them you don't want discount of their professional fees but want tip top service and tip top response time
- Send lawyers clerk box of chocolates, they will remember to put your file on top of the pile
- Give delivery boy rokok, he will do your searches first
- If conveyancing, get to know other sides lawyer, make contact, open line of communication, sometimes can get status update yourself

Thanks

- You are welcome
- Lawyers may not like me, who cares
