SINGAPORE: Singapore referee Jeffrey Goh has been appointed an official Assistant Referee for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa in the list released by FIFA on Friday night.

38-year-old Goh has been an assistant referee with the Football Association of Singapore since 1997 and obtained his international licence in 2006.

He is a three-time S-League Assistant Referee of the Year and manned the lines in the 2008 Suzuki Cup final as well as the AFC Champions League final.

In South Africa, Goh will be part of the team headed by Malaysian referee Subkhiddin Mohd Salleh, which also includes assistant referee Mu Yuxin from China.

At the last World Cup in Germany, Singapore's Shamsul Maidin was an Official Referee, taking charge of three matches.

George Suppiah was the first Singapore to officiate a match at the World Cup finals back in 1974. - CNA/vm
