in the mid 70's, nsf chaps who passed out from SISL and OCT school served 2.5 years, not sure when they commenced 2 year fulltime though.

I left Singapore in 1981, and recall that it was after I left that the govt reduced NS to 2 years.

I recall that after one of the reservist in camp training, several of my men treated a few other officers and I, to seafood dinner at East Coast, because I was a financially poor university student at that time.

I did not indicate that I admired all or many of the officers.

You are entitled to your opinion, but not all of us can be as confident as you regarding our SAF men shooting their officers in combat.
However, if you are an individual who has considered such a step or is inclined to do, perhaps, your conscience may make you re-consider.

I pray and hope that the SAF considers giving you an out right release, and not call you for reservist or similar duties.

I don't need to do it ...there are lots of soldiers that will do it. The majority of officers don't know how to lead. They treat their men with little respect and demand loyalty while giving nothing in return. You expect soldiers to follow the lead of such nincompoops?
Look at quality of paper generals and ex-generals now serving in top posts in GLC and in government.

Shooting officers in times of war is dumb. Balistic tests will produce evidence against the culprits. American GIs developed fragging during the Vietnam war to eliminate this problem.

This is SINKapore army ...we won't win any war. There won't be any investigation on friendly fire. And sinkees are totally dispensable, even if you are officers.

So true. So many officers abuse their bestowed authority the moment they have it. Officer or not, who cares. If they want respect they must be able to earn it first. Most so-called officers in ns period hardly can command. Wayang only~~~~

Win war I dunno but certaintly can win some battles. I personally think my reservist battalion has what it take to go into battle. While some officers CMI, there are still a few competent blokes around. My reservist PC won't give orders that he won't do himself, lead from the front and super fit despite being a fellow reservist. While dun like my OC as he a cheebyekia, but I had to admit the farker can fight.

No need to one bamboo to knock everybody off the boat.
