LongBow,thank u for yr interesting points.Big difference is Wang moved into car mfg and at 600K cars a year he has critical mass. IT hardware (Creative) is totally different technology and 2 bad years and you are out.
Italians made the most sexy cars - big consumer appeal. But they are not reliable so they are out in many markets. The Japs had not much marketing appeal but cars were reliable and had good economy same for the Koreans.
I tend to trust Buffet and he has skin and reputation in the game.
Agree we have to watch it play out. I would rather place my $ in BYD vs Bloom.
Actually I mentioned Mr Sim,bascically because of his more Chinese valued type of background,he was fr English schools but spent most of his time with some very brilliant Chinese helicopters, mostly from Spore Experimental Theatre.
I have many of these Chinese educated friends who are brilliant engioeers. One who runs a contract manufacturer told me many times before:
"Look at this product made by Siemens,Philips,I can make it better and cheaper, why I cannot sell to the world."- beacuse he is very keen to have his own products, rather than making parts for others, etc
I spent much time explaining the concept of BRAND but failed.
From the way Mr Sim developed and launched his products over such a long period of time,I feel that this is a one of the problems why Steve Job is so successful whilst Mr Sim is not until now!
BYD vs Bloom.
BYD has a technical and financil record,it is revolutionary in its industry which has limited competitiors
Bloom is different, espcially in SV,millions are just waiting in the wiing to strike such success.
My punting would be 90% for BYD,and 10% for Bloom
