wah dig out opposition dirty secrets also considered good and clean woh!

INGAPORE: The People's Action Party's candidate for Hougang, Desmond Choo, maintains that the by-election is still "very much a good and clean fight".

Mr Choo said he is very much focused on his own campaign, despite questions now being raised over the integrity of his opponent.

Mr Choo was speaking to Channel NewsAsia during a walkabout in Hougang on Wednesday.

He said the whole NCMP incident will not distract him from his work on the ground.

Mr Choo added that he and Mr Png have mutual respect for each other. He noted that he would exchange warm greetings with Mr Png when they meet on the campaign trail, and he is confident this will remain so for the rest of the hustings.

Responding to criticism from the Workers' Party that he is not truly independent as he has to toe the party line when it comes to voting on bills in Parliament, Mr Choo said the PAP values individuals who are willing to speak out.

"I'm going to pressure the government on policies that they do not do well, or those that they do not do fast enough. And that's something I've conveyed to DPM Teo as well, and he fully appreciates the fact that I'm willing to come out and advocate for Singaporeans and that hasn't changed," he said.

Mr Choo added that should Mr Png be the Hougang MP, he too will need to vote along party lines.
