what kind of businesses has potential? the two that stand out are tuition and food, in my opinion.

Yes but stiff competition. Maybe delivery since online shopping is picking up and people nowadays too busy go out buy food or groceries.

It is not that they are too busy. Its just that the cost of buying your own food is more expensive than having it delivered after taking imto account petrol and parking.

computer and mobile phone repair including data recovery can explore, not many pple have niche skills.

Funeral business is recession proof. But prepare to sacrifice evenings and burn weekends.

domestic cleaning biz also can dabble. btw, these business ideas are small time biz not like shipping biz, very very deep pocket type.

What I would to dabble in when I retire in 10 years time: vending machine biz, full time sgx day trader with margin account, start a cooking league, start a cooking school that specialises in cooking with flour, get an industrial area to turn into a small cinema to screen movies for a small cosy crowd and lastly home cooking

Dont bother. As people get more debt businesses will die off. Just wait for the dust to settlr

Screw business anyone? My Thai boss is now a screw king and I wish I can be like him but I don’t have enough capital.

hopefully, our suggestions can help those who are in dire straits after getting retrenched.

if anybody out there is in mnc, it's important to keep your eyes wide open, network with vendors, suppliers and contractors and almost everybody. in the 2000, i acquaint an hongkie who turned into a contractor for hp in states and making good money, he probably retired now with comfy life. also, perks working in mncs, the opportunity of getting posted to western countries are high and easier to get PR later.

running a church is top of the list.
good example is the Prince and konghee fatt choy.

almost zero capital requirement.
business spread by words of month.
immediate income from donation.

adding on, engineering jobs in mnc are highly sought after if you want overseas posting, sometimes, you can even request for it, be thick skinned... next to engineering, i know one accounts indian girl got posted to melbourne with PR status, she was with hp.

please hor...i am referring to legitimate and practical biz, not some conmanship kind of trade with word of mouth.

adding on, i know one chink who came to melb during the tiananmen square incident, he didn't speak english but was able to own a cleaning biz till able to own few properties and happily retired. don't try to think cleaning biz is some crappy biz.

adding on, hope venturers to take this into consideration, i almost went into jap food biz, renting a food stall in sim lim square food court at basement in the year of 2015, the rent alone is 5k, i backed out!! i don't want to make money to pay rent. eventually, it was taken over by a muslim stall.
