I will tell this story and it paints the picture. An exporter followed a govt trade delegation to India and they visted a few cities and various hovt officials. This chap came back with 90 plus containers worth of firm orders. Many of whom were introduced by the various state and federal govt. In the end, no shipment was ever made. Those who placed orders gave various excuses and even made claims that the Indian govt will guarantee payments etc. The other businessmen had similar stories.

The prevalent caste system itself is ultimate in discrimination.
BJP is Hindu rightwing party. The stronger it gets the weaker India will become. One must not forget 15% of pop is Muslim and they cannot be marginalised.

Already India/Pakistan issue is at heart of the religious dispute.

They should just shut up and improve infrastructure, schools, basic medical care. Then you will have a whole generation of educated citizens that can vote in what they want.

Love it or hate it, China has the CCP, if a road needs to be build through here it will be done. In India, it involves red tapes, protests, farmers rights, contractors rights. That is why India is still a backwaters compared to China. Australia was labelled a racist country due to the some Indian students gotten bashed in Melbourne. They've forgotten that in India racism is even more pronounced among their own people let along the aussies.

In China, all you hear about is how to catch up with USA. USA is their target. In India all you hear is how to catch up with China. And when Indians know they are obviously failing (just go see to 2 capitals and their corresponding business capitals and it is night and day) their usual fall back is that they are largest democracy.

If they are truly democratic why keep voting the same old party that have done nothing for the citizens. The citizens are till crapping in the bushes .........

India is a shithole. Give it another decade and it will still remain the same. Whenever I hear people say that it can catch up to China economically within the next five to ten years, I can barely stop myself from laughing.

New Delhi, July 13 (ANI): Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said that the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN) must strengthen ties with other countries of the Asia-Pacific region.

“ASEAN needs to strengthen its cooperation with its partners in Asia,” Lee said at the ‘Singapore Symposium‘ here.

“ASEAN needs to strengthen its cooperation with its partners in Asia. It’s dialogue partners, the plus ones, (such as) India, Korea, Australia, Japan, China and so on. And one major initiative which ASEAN is pursuing to strengthen its partnership with these plus ones, which is the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP),” Lee added.

He further said that India had the potential to bring its growth rate to over 8 per cent in the near future.

“There is every reason why India should be able to go further, and to be able to grow not just at 7 plus per cent which they are projecting now, but 8-9 per cent for another 5-10 years, easily. Because the potential is there, the human capabilities are there. I think the technological know-how is significantly available. Your leading companies are world, and you also have big areas where if you can catch up to even half the gap, you will already make a big difference,” Lee said.

But problem is unlike China where everyone wants to modernize, India has a very large part of its population that does not want to modernize, That is one of its nagging problem, About 60% wants to keep it rural and conservative, sos that is why you need a whole new generation of Indians)

Main problem with India is that many people have developed a philosophical mindset in order to accept better their dire situation. It is this acceptance of their present blight that is holding the country back. Inspite of this, by virtue of their large population, they are on target to pass USA as the second largest economic power, measured by total GDP, by year 2050.

Indeed, democracy works only if the majority understands how it works. India just has too many unwashed masses to make it work.

You made me Sit up on when you mentioned Democracy, Totally forgot how important it is and I realized that i too was blindly blaming it as an excuse that it stops progress.(But we still can't run from the fact that India's style of democracy does slow progress but just to a certain level) Now If we go back to India, We can't brush aside that at least 60% of its population does not want to modernize and wants to live as conservatives in Rural India.

Don't link yourself with the Japs and Koreans they are way ahead of the Chinese and have totally different culture.(Remember they hate the Chinese, Forgot how the Japs/Koreans flung Chinese babies in the air and bayoneted them) If you consider "culture" and "Standard" as a benchmark, then China will be as poor as the poorest country in Africa and Don't forget that most of the Chinese culture came from the Indian Sub-continent.

Despite all the built infrastructure, the cost of transportation in China is still 7-10% more expensive than the US.
Also, there are inefficiencies and gaps caused by central planners, which is inherent in such a system.
There is a need to lower tax in China too.
With cost rising, factories are shifting to other lower cost countries.

There is increasing worries over fake growth in China.

As for the other BRIC countries -
India's problem cannot be solved by BJP.
Brazil economic miracle is just about over as well.
Russia and South Africa's problems are getting pretty obvious.

Transitioning to something else is going to be hard. China is probably at the stage now when Singapore was in the 80s, 90s. Everything is going to get more expensive. Don't forget, unlike Singapore, the growth, modernisation, infrastructure building is only complete, fully build along the eastern area. You still have the vast middle region, Chongqing, Hunan, SiChuan area, which has just started a while back all the way to the rural desolate area to the far west inner Mongolia, Tibet. The total "transformation" of China still has a long way to go. Whether the CCP can do this or not is another matter. But they would be more equipped then the Indians at this.
