[TD="class: msgtxt"]Declining population equal negative economic growth is a self-fulfil prophecy that PAP wants you to believe. For years they been selectively using Japan as an example to justify their importation of FT to grow our economy. Fact is Japan economy was hurt by the property bubble burst in the 80s when US forced Japan to drastically appreciate the value of the yen. From then on Japan had been struggling to pick up. It has nothing to do with their population growth.

Here an example of another export oriented economy - Germany. They are already on the path of population decline since 2003 and their economy continue to grow despite this. Looking at the graph it doesn't seem to suggest there is any correlation between economic progress and population growth.

Germany economy to grow 3.3% in 2011; Employment to expand by 490,000 people; Budget deficit may dip to 0.2% of GDP in 2012

German Population Continues to Decline

The number of births, meanwhile, was the lowest since World War II....

There is a slider bar at the bottom. Makapaaa would do very well without taking in posts from elsewhere to post here. I would prefer we do not copy from other websites, it lowers our dignity. Surely we can make our own threads?
