Japanese soldiers in Bukit Timah village in Feb 1942.
Dead civilian in the foreground.
Other civilians squatting/kneeling behind, waiting for their fate to be decided. Will they be executed?

Photo was apparently taken along Jalan Jurong Kechil, near where the Esso station stands today.

Notice the smoke in the background. The Battle for Singapore was still being fought.

Bukit Timah - Jurong Kechil junction was fought over with huge casualties on both sides.

From the late 60s, this junction is used to serve soldiers from SAFTI changing buses towards Jurong. Perhaps this photo can be embossed on bus stops there to remind citizens that national defence is serious business.

The fighting stretched from Lim Chu Kang , Bukit Batok all the way to Bukit Timah Dairy Farm. In fact the Japs massacred a number of British POWs who surrendered. The Dairy Farm was one of the site of the massacres.
