Pedestrian suffers serious injuries after collision with bicyclist in North Clairemont

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — A 79-year-old pedestrian suffered serious injuries after being struck by a bicyclist Thursday morning in the North Clairemont neighborhood, according to the San Diego Police Department.

The incident occurred in the 4700 block of Genesee Avenue shortly before 5 a.m., where both individuals were traveling southbound in the bike lane. Authorities say the 52-year-old cyclist collided with the pedestrian, who was also walking within the bike lane.

Emergency responders transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where he is being treated for serious injuries, including a skull fracture and brain bleed. His current condition has not yet been disclosed.

The SDPD’s Traffic Division responded to the scene and is actively investigating the collision. Police are encouraging anyone with information about the incident to contact the department or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477.
