Canvas tent collapses on SMRT bus along Eu Tong Sen Street
AsiaOneTuesday, Dec 09, 2014

SINGAPORE - Traffic was disrupted along Eu Tong Sen street on Tuesday afternoon after a blue canvas tent collapsed onto an SMRT bus.

Public transport operator SMRT said that the incident occurred to bus service 961 around 12.40pm near the bus stop in front of People's Park Complex.

A makeshift tent was displaced from an elevated position, reported The Straits Times.

No one was hurt in the incident and SMRT made arrangements for the 25 passengers to be transferred to another bus that was plying the route.

Police said the incident caused a slight traffic jam but no further police assistance was required.

SMRT vice-president of corporate information and communications Patrick Nathan said: "As a precaution, the affected bus was routed back to its interchange for detailed inspections."

13 injured in accident involving bus and taxi along Upper Serangoon Road

SINGAPORE - Thirteen people were injured after an accident between a bus and a taxi along Upper Serangoon Road on Monday night.

Police said they received a call at about 7.30pm informing them of the accident along Upper Serangoon Road. The 13 people were believed to have been taken to Changi General Hospital, KK Women's and Children's Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The Straits Times understands that at least one of them had a neck brace on and was on a stretcher, and that the taxi driver had been taken to hospital.

When The Straits Times arrived at the scene, the area around the bus had been cordoned off, and it appeared that the SBS Transit bus had hit the back of a Comfort Delgro taxi.

The front of the bus was badly dented and its wind shield was cracked. The back of the taxi was badly damaged and its window was shattered.

The SCDF said it had dispatched a fire engine and four ambulances to the scene at 1033, Upper Serangoon Road. No one was trapped in the accident, added the spokesman.

Mr Jack Queck, who lives in the HDB block opposite the accident site, said that he heard someone scream, and loud "bang" sound at around 7.30pm while he was watching television.

The 35-year-old jackpot administrator who lives at Hougang Street 31 added: "I rushed out, and an ambulance arrived soon afterwards."

Police are investigating.
