Chia Thye Poh (simplified Chinese: 谢太宝; traditional Chinese: 謝太寶; pinyin: Xiè Tàibǎo; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Siā Thài-pó, born 1941[2]) was the longest-serving political prisoner in the history of Singapore and perhaps the longest-serving prisoner of conscience of the 20th century, if not one of its longest-serving political prisoners.
Detained under the Internal Security Act of Singapore for allegedly conducting pro-communist activities against the government, he was imprisoned for 23 years without charge or trial and subsequently placed under conditions of house arrest for another nine years — in which he was first confined to the island of Sentosa and then subject to restrictions on his place of abode, employment, travel, and exercise of political rights.
Prior to his detention, he had been a teacher, a physics lecturer, a socialist political activist and a member of the Parliament of Singapore.[2] Subsequent to it, he has been a doctoral student and an interpreter.

A CASH reward is on offer to anyone who can provide information on an animal abuser responsible for the death of a white pigeon.
On Monday, a white pigeon was found around Blk 166 Bishan St 13 with a homemade arrow thrust through its lower abdomen.
The bird later died from the puncture wound.
The Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is looking for possible leads to track the identity of the abuser and has put up a $1,000 reward for any information that will lead to the culprit's arrest.
SPCA flyers have also been put up near where the pigeon was found. In Singapore, cruelty to animals is a crime. Under the Animals and Birds Act, anyone who is found guilty of such an offence including abandonment of any animal, can be imprisoned for up to 12 months, fined up to $10,000, or both.
Call the SPCA at 6287-5355 (extension 9) if you have any information about the case.
