Cross street viaduct - what a screwup - who will pay for this mistake?

Do you know that our government demolished the cross street viaduct that they spend millions to build?
Who ideas it was to build?
Who should answer for this waste of public money?
Is this a "under table money" situation?

You mean the under-utilized one lane viaduct? Yeah I was shocked that it was gone so soon, real waste of money. Heard that the justification to build it was to alleviate the traffic congestion caused by the tunnelling works next to lau pa sak.

It was never meant to be a permanent feature.

Opening Of Temporary Vehicular Viaduct At Cross Street
And Revised Traffic Flow At China Street

1. The Land Transport Authority is pleased to announce that the construction of the temporary vehicular viaduct along Cross Street has been completed and will be opened in phases starting from Sunday, 28 December 2008 onwards.

2. The temporary viaduct that connects Central Boulevard to China Street is constructed to ensure lane for lane replacement during the Downtown Line 1 (DTL1) construction where works will be carried out along Cross Street. The viaduct will be in use till 2012 when the construction of the Cross Street Station is targeted to be completed.

3. The viaduct enables motorists travelling to New Bridge Road to by-pass four busy junctions* along Cross Street. This will serve to alleviate traffic congestion moving at-grade during the construction period of the Downtown Line.

* The road junctions are at Telok Ayer Street, Cecil Street, Robinson Road and Raffles Quay.

4. The temporary two lane viaduct will be opened to traffic on Sunday, 28 December 2008 at 1300 hours. Motorists will be able to access the viaduct via the up-ramp at Central Boulevard. The other two up-ramps from Raffles Quay and Robinson Road will be opened in two subsequent phases in early 2009. Details will be announced at a later date. (Please refer to Annex 1 for the location of the viaduct and up-ramps). There will be no change to the at-grade roads at Raffles Quay and Robinson Road. The Cross Street at-grade road will remain open for access to all slip roads except China Street.

That is nevertheless still a wasteful project that benefited only their cronies because it had never been a jam zone. The silly temp thing never made any real diff.

The money was spent and wasted except benefiting PAP cronies.

This is nothing compared to the billions given to Thaksin.

Er... it benefitted quite a few workers commuting in that area, including me, and I'm in no way, shape or form related to Grate or Deer Leeder.

That area is dead town most of the day time, and during peak just moderate level. I don't work there any more but will pass through 1 or 2 times a month.

How you benefited? Save 45 secs each day?

I don't commute there everyday. But when I do, it is during peak hours, and had it not been for the additional lanes of traffic provided by the viaduct, the junctions below would have been more jammed than they were. And while I have no way of confirming it, I can say the savings in time would have been far more than 45 seconds.

Definitely more than 45 seconds. The viaduct practically flies over 2 junctions.
