COVID-19: Singapore to shift from border control to social distancing

Pap is just dying to do away with border controls, allowing everyone from everywhere to come forth and spread the virus. Furthermore, how to have effective social distancing when the island is jam-packed with people?

SINGAPORE — As the COVID-19 coronavirus continues to spread globally, border controls will become less relevant and effective in the future, said Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong on Tuesday (10 March). Singapore will need to shift its approach towards containing the spread within the country, he added.

Country-specific border control measures will become less relevant and effective because we are unable to shut Singapore from the world,” he said during a media conference by the multi-ministry task force set up to handle the coronavirus, which he co-chairs.

“We will have to double down on the measures we can do within Singapore. We will look at the whole range of social distancing measures.”

Ramping up with fuller range of measures
Some basic surveillance at the borders would continue, as well as the use of swab tests for travellers who are febrile (showing signs of fever) or who have respiratory symptoms.

However, over time, Wong said the government will have to ramp up and implement more social distancing measures.

An example of a social distancing measure was implemented on Tuesday, as the Ministry of Health (MOH) suspended all senior-centric activities by government
agencies
for two weeks, following a COVID-19 outbreak cluster that had spread from a dinner event at SAFRA Jurong.

Other forms of social distancing measures already in place include isolating patients, putting close contacts on quarantine and issuing Stay-Home Notices.

“We will look at a fuller range of social distancing measures we can put in place (such as) staggered hours and telecommuting, for public events, community activities,
school closures, workplace as well as religious services. We will cover a broad spectrum and we will see what we should put in place,” Wong said.

KNN one thing to ponder is why people allow govt to decide their life KNN during voting for a govt the agreement is to vote for a govt that always have your interest but this case is obviously not to your interest KNN

The World Health Organisation has just declared the COVID-19 virus a pandemic. Yet, the fucking pap is thinking of opening borders. Un-fucking-believable.

social distancing: stay home or in corners of cyber cafes and watch tv or play call of duty until dehydrated and dead. this one died while reaching out to his keyboard and remained in that position due to rigor mortis.

sinkies must also refrain from touching and scratching their itchy genitalia. how washing hands thoroughly with disinfectant soap is also important. white glow indicates bacteria and germs (and viruses too when not sexposed to sunlight). for me, at least 6.9 seconds with soap.

Since the disease is mild in most people and the mortality rate is extremely low the best course of action would be allow the disease to spread so that natural immunity is developed in the population.

That was how measles was dealt with in the past and I cannot recall anyone in my cohort dying from measles even though it can be serious.

Nearly All Kids Got Measles in the 1950s

Over 600 measles cases in United States in 2014 sounded alarms. It was the highest number of cases of measles since it was declared eliminated in the United States in 2000. If the current trend continues, the country could see 1,000 cases this year, the most since 1992.

It is alarming, since the measles can be life-threatening. For every 1,000 cases of measles in children, one or two will die from it, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) statistics.

There was a time, however, when measles was extremely common in kids, almost as common as a cold. Prior to development of a vaccination in 1963, nearly all children ached through the illness before the turned 15. Once suffering through it, a person is immune for life. This means if you were born or lived in the country before 1957, you’re almost certainly immune to measles since you’ve probably had it.
