Court calls for mandatory treatment suitability report for woman who touched ex-colleague

SINGAPORE: The court has called for a mandatory treatment suitability report before the sentencing of a relief teacher who used criminal force to touch her female ex-colleague.
In June this year, 27-year-old Poh Sim Ying was charged in court with three counts of using criminal force to touch her then colleague in a bus.
Poh admitted to touching the victim's hair, caressing her waist and snatching an activated shrill alarm from the woman, who was at that time 25 years old.
Another charge where Poh, now a tuition teacher, tried to kiss the victim will be taken into consideration during sentencing.
The incident was said to have happened on board bus 106, which was travelling along Commonwealth Avenue West on April 15, this year.
In mitigation, defence lawyer Louis Joseph said that Poh suffers from depression and urged the court to send his client for mandatory treatment.
If convicted, Poh could be jailed for up to three months and fined up to S$500 on each count.
The case will be heard again in late November. - CNA/nd
