SINGAPORE - With the assistance of two public-spirited members of public, Police arrested a 45-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman for stealing from bags left unattended at a swimming complex in Jurong West.

On February 18, a female complainant observed the couple behaving suspiciously and was seen removing a wallet from a bag left unattended at the poolside.

She immediately alerted her friend and both of them detained the two accused persons and called for the Police. Upon Police arrival, the two suspects were subsequently placed under arrest.

The suspects will be charged in Court on Wednesday, February 20, for the offence of Theft with Common Intention punishable under Section 379 read with Section 34 of the Penal Code, Chapter 224, which carries an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 3 years, and shall also be liable to a fine.

Commander of Jurong Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Wilson Lim commended the complainant and her friend for their public-spiritedness and thanked them for their assistance in apprehending the suspects.

Moral of the story - Low crime is not no crime.

Don't think Singapore is a safe country to leave the wallet lying around. Keep belongings in the locker. It is much safer especially now there are so many foreigners.
