The National Economic Council has agreed to review the proposed toll charges at the Eastern Dispersal Link. Consumers and other parties had complained that the charges were exorbitant.
MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek said he had brought the matter to the council during a meeting on Monday and the council had agreed to table the matter in the next meeting.
He said MCA's principle on the toll charges was that non-users should not be liable for charges.
"This is MCA's stand and I believe this is also the state government's stand," he said at Johor MCA's Chinese New Year celebration here last night.
The EDL is an 8km highway that links Pandan to the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex at the Causeway.
It is toll-free for those travelling within the city, however, those entering or coming back from Singapore, regardless whether they are users or non-users of the highway, are subject to the same toll rate when they reach the CIQ Complex.
The toll rate is applicable to all vehicles, except motorcycles. The rate for cars is tagged at RM2.90 (S$1.20). It is learnt that the new toll rate to be imposed will be RM6.20.
Dr Chua urged the Chinese not to fall for DAP's lies and propaganda.
He said the DAP today was unlike that of yesteryears, adding that a vote for DAP was a vote for the opposition pact, which included Pas and Parti Keadilan Rakyat.
"In other words, a vote for DAP will only strengthen Pas' presence. Strengthening DAP in Johor is to pave the way for Pas to be the boss and its leaders to be the next menteri besar. When this happens, development will come to a standstill like what is happening in Kelantan. This is because Pas only cares about its own constitution and values and will impose measures which are not friendly to non-Muslims."
