Cops on hunt for 'fender-bender' gang

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are going after a group of robbers dubbed the 'fender-bender' gang, responsible for 37 vehicle theft and robbery cases this year.
The gang would use stolen luxury cars to ram into other luxury cars from behind, and would hijack the cars on the pretext of 'settling' the minor accident.
According to Kuala Lumpur police chief Senior Deputy Comm Datuk Mohmad Salleh, the gang would rob the victims before escaping with the vehicles.
"They are responsible for some 37 cases around Kuala Lumpur.
"The luxury cars used and stolen usually cost more than RM100,000," he told a press conference during the Sentul police district Hari Raya do here Wednesday.
SDC Mohmad said police have identified seven men aged between 21 and 26, believed to be members of the gang.
"All seven have past police records for other offences," he said.
He also requested assistance of the public to track down seven men to assist in the investigations.
