Cops foil ATM robbery attempt
KUALA LUMPUR: Police managed to foil a three-man team trying to cut open an ATM at Bandar Baru Ampang here.
Ampang OCPD Asst Comm Amiruddin Jamaluddin said police were alerted by the bank located along Jalan Wawasan 2/2 after three men wearing masks and helmets were seen trying to cut open an ATM using a blowtorch at 3am yesterday.
“We dispatched a police patrol car and motorcycle patrol units to the location. Two of the men managed to drag out the oxyacetylene cutter and escape in a grey Proton Iswara,” he said.
A suspect was arrested at the scene after a scuffle with police.
ACP Amiruddin said the suspects left empty-handed as they failed to open the cash compartment.
“The 38-year-old suspect arrested has a prior record for drug possession,” he said.
He urged anyone with information on the case to contact the police hotline at 03-2052 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
