50 singaporeans apply for 3 unis. That's 150 applications.
Half of the 50 get a place in ONE uni. That's 25 singaporeans... but that means 25 applications get accepted.
So out of 150 applications, only 25 get accepted... or an average of at least 8 per uni. Technically, that would mean at least 8 singaporeans get into each uni... so it does equal about half...
BUT. here's the kicker... If the SAME 8 singaporeans get accepted into all 3 universities (since he said... at least 1). That means his numbers are lying.
Oh and don't forget the "last 3 years" clause. That could mean that it's the average of 3 years.

Half of S'poreans who apply to the 3 public unis get at least 1 offer
By Satish Cheney, Channel NewsAsia | Posted: 17 November 2008 2125 hrs

SINGAPORE: Over the past three years, half of all Singaporeans who applied to the three public universities here received at least one offer from a university.
This was revealed in Education Minister Ng Eng Hen's written answer to MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC, Wee Siew Kim.
Dr Ng added that no Singaporean who qualifies for admission to the universities is denied a place.
There is a 20 per cent cap on the number of international students at local universities.
The minister also added that a small number of university applicants have also qualified under special circumstances.
For example, a few talents aged as young as 14 have been accepted by the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music for their exceptional gift in music.

Okay to summarise.

Ways to spot PAP deciet.

1. When the PAP use statistic to justify a number, BE ON THE ALERT.
They could have simply USE A STRAIGHT FORWARD NUMBER. The more covulated the stats, simply means, it trying to HIDE the real numbers.

2. Now when you are embroil into figuring out what does this stats means, and in the ensuing confusion to figure it out, THE MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION gets sidelined. This is a typical PAP strategy.

The question to ask is this. HOW many places are given to Foriegners in Singapore and what is their percentage in comparison to Singaporeans students.

Who actually monitors the cap on foreign students ?

In this manner, the PAP dilutes and dodge the whole focus of its accountability by confusing the issue.

Spotting the deceit is good. What makes the difference is what will you do after the deceit is spotted.

For my experience with sinkies, they just sit back and watch the deceit in action while knowing its existence, its process and its effect intelligently.

Percentile allocated for FTs sure to be filled. Everything in SG is run like a biz these days. FTs pay full fees, so they must ensure the quota needs to be met & exceeded, so they can open up more space for FTs on the following yr.

This rounds up to be 16% of local students which is lower than the 20% cap on foreign students ! This is evil !
Anyway Education Minister Ng say half of all Singaporeans who applied to the three public universities here received at least one offer from a university. So this 50% group contains sporean who got at 1,2,3 uni offers and the other 50% get 0 uni offer at all ! and all these students who can admin into university such as SIM or unisim are not denied a place too.
So what he say is true.
