Samsung suspends production of recalled Note 7
10 Oct 2016
WRITER: AFP
SEOUL - Samsung Electronics has suspended production of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, a report said on Monday, a month after a recall prompted by battery explosions and a day after two major overseas distributors halted replacements.

Samsung Electronics has suspended production of its Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, a month after a recall prompted by battery explosions.
Samsung, the world's largest smartphone maker, declined to comment on the report by South Korea's Yonhap news agency which was sourced to an unidentified official with an unnamed Samsung supplier.

The official told Yonhap the decision to temporarily halt production was taken in cooperation with consumer safety regulators from South Korea, the United States and China.

Samsung decided on Sept 2 to halt the sale of the Galaxy Note 7 and recall those sold after complaints that its lithium-ion battery exploded while charging.

With images of charred phones flooding social media, the unprecedented recall was a humiliation for a firm that prides itself as an icon of innovation and quality.

The recall process initially stumbled with some mixed messages, but seemed to be on track until last week when reports emerged of similar problems with some of the replacement phones.

On Sunday, US telecommunications firm AT&T and German rival T-Mobile said they would halt exchanges of recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7s pending further investigations.

AT&T said it would still offer customers the option to exchange that device for another Samsung smartphone or other device of their choice.

T-Mobile said it was halting sales of the Galaxy Note 7, as well as the exchanges.

Samsung on Friday issued a stronger-than-expected operating profit forecast for the third quarter despite the impact of the recall which, according to some analysts, could cost up to $2 billion.

With the new google pixel coming out, I think Samsung might go the way of HTC and Sony smartphones.

more likely their homemade chipset to replace snapdragon which they hv vehemently accused of overheating problem. the chicken has come home to roast.

Just th8nking. Its waterproof. So heat cannot dissipate.

Completely Wrong!

I am using S7 edge, S7 and S7 edge nearly has identical waterproof functions and no over heating issues at all.

It is something called Fast Charge Ver 2/3

Both the charger circuits and battery of Note 7 are one version higher Fast Charge than S7 / S7 Edge, it is the issue causing over heating of battery. As a characteristic of fast charge, the battery will be very hot during charge and charging circuit must sense the temperature and slow down the charge to be safe. That's all. Those playing with remote control model race cars, drones etc will know. They are required fast charge their batteries inside a special safety box. And lots of times, they explode in flames and the safety box contains the fire. Both the charger circuit (in phone) and the battery are very hot during fast charge, and they charge very fast. Because the duration is very short to charge there is much less time to dissipate the heat.

Thermal physics very simple, if you produced the same amount of heat within a small fraction of the original time, the temperature shoots up sky high. Cooling needs time. Or unless like I previously posted, charge it inside water if your device like Note 7 is waterproof. You are safe inside water, because water is best coolant, and extinguishing flames, and also keeps ambient oxygen away, that's why it's very safe. To do this, soak Note 7 in a plastic container filled with water, the Samsung Wireless charger placed underneath the container, the only thing inside water is Note 7.

These remote control toys' batteries are NOT waterproof unlike Samsung Galaxy, so can not be charge inside water. If you did, you will be doing electrolysis of water, at the electrical terminals, and that produces hydrogen and oxygen, which are explosive combination.

don't need to be waterproof. $1.29 ziplock bag from daiso will do.
