Woman Goes To JB For Confinement After Giving Birth In S’pore; Paid A Fraction Of The Price It Would Cost Here
According to Huiwen, it would cost her around S$16k should she choose to have her confinement stay in Singapore. The JB option sounds like a good deal, right?
Singaporeans love going to JB for a good deal, from food to daily essentials to... doing confinement after giving birth.
A mum from Singapore recently gave birth to her second child and chose to do a 28-day confinement stay for her post-partum recovery at a confinement centre in Johor Bahru.
Huiwen (@huiwen_stcouple) shared in an Instagram post that she had previously stayed in the same facility, JB LYC Confinement Centre in Malaysia, after the birth of her first child two years ago. She enjoyed the experience so much she decided to return after delivering her second child at KK Woman’s and Children’s Hospital.
She revealed that it cost “about RM20K+” (S$6K+) for 28 days, and that the price had “increased slightly” since the last time she was there.
It would cost around S$16k for something similar in Singapore, Huiwen revealed in the comments section.
To obtain a passport for their newborn, her husband went to ICA with relevant documents, including the confinement centre receipt and a passport photo of their baby. The process took about three hours.
Singaporeans are allowed to stay in Malaysia for a maximum of 30 days without a visa. While Huiwen's stay was 28 days, she shared that new mums can opt to exit and re-enter JB should they wish to book a longer stay.
Confinement centres offer round-the-clock post-natal care for mums and babies, taking care of their nutrition, health and wellness in general.
The room she'd booked is similar to a service apartment -- she opted for a bigger room as her older child will joining her husband and her for the stay.
The confinement programme comes with daily herbal baths, her own fridge and microwave, as well as the use of a shared pantry which includes drinks like milo, coffee, and free-flow red date tea. The staff at the confinement centre also help with the washing of her milk pumps.
In her video, Huiwen included more details about her stay, like how she was given the option to select her meals upon arrival.
“Love that we can choose our own menu, the friendly staff and nurses come with in-house Javanese massage by Singapore BMB (Beauty Mums & Babies)!” she captioned.
Upon arriving for check-in, she was given a tea-time meal, which included a very yummy-looking bread pudding. She then had pork ribs for dinner, adding that “in her impression, their food is usually pretty good”.
Spouses can opt to order in their own food, or also get their grub from the centre for RM22 (S$6.70) a meal.
Huiwen was not the only one impressed by the service and facilities provided at the confinement centre — netizens were equally intrigued.
Most agreed that the place looked very comfortable, and the food delicious, with many agreeing the price she paid for a one-month stay was “very worth it”.
She made her first day at the confinement centre look so enjoyable, one netizen quipped: “Can I go there for a check-up even if I’m not having a child? I’m hungry now.”
