HE ATTEMPTED to beat a knee problem and the morning rush for spots at the Sungei Road Free Hawking Zone by parking his trolley laden with his wares in his desired spot after midnight.
However, when Mr Chan Sye Hoong, 73, returned just after noon yesterday, he had been displaced by a group of men who claimed to have been hawking at that spot for years.
Even though he refused to give and even got into a shouting match with one of the men (below), Mr Chan failed to move the group and reclaim his reserved spot.
With the first-come-first-serve system implemented by the National Environment Agency following a cull in space on Monday, the competition for spots at Sungei Road continues on.
