Taiwanese companies are terribly exploitative with little work-life balance. That's why many young Taiwanese have quit the corporate ladder and gone into starting their own businesses, freelancing, or travelling round the world while working part-time. Talk to them and you realize that they don't give a damn about GDP growth anymore - it's about pursuing self-fulfilment, chasing experiences, doing the things you enjoy.
