This is a very disturbing news. How did this B.1.6.172 variant got into the common population? I thought it was blocked at the airport? Or is this a fake news? I have full confidence in our PAP government in preventing this variant from coming in, what happened?

SINGAPORE — Seven patients from three Covid-19 community clusters here have a coronavirus variant first detected in India. Five of them with this B16172 variant are part of the cluster at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH).

They include the nurse from Ward 9D, who was the first case detected in Singapore’s largest hospital virus cluster, which now has 40 confirmed cases.
Another staff member at TTSH who contracted that virus variant was a doctor who attended to patients in the same ward. The other three cases are patients of that ward.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Tuesday (May 4) that the two other cases with the B16172 variant were an Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officer at Changi Airport and a cleaner deployed at a community care facility at Tuas South.
The B16172 variant is closely related to the B1617 variant, which is believed to be fuelling a deadly wave of infections in India.

The Singaporean ICA officer was confirmed to be infected last Tuesday and that cluster has 11 infections.

Sg welcome b16172 variant with open leg.

Once bitten, forever smitten. Welcome those infected to the ceca club.

Singapore had ample time, warning and knowledge about this variant and I’m sure the PAP government with our elite leaders had made full preparation to prevent this B.1.6.172 variant from infecting the common population. So how did this happen? Who is responsible for this?

Ceca agreement wud not be complete without allowing B16172 Indian version here.

Governments cannot control hurricanes, earthquakes, floods and viruses.

The PAP govt has allowed the free movement of covid-19 from India to Singapore. This is treason.

If it hadn't happened now it would just have happened later. There is no way mere mortals can hold back the tide.

Wrong. Again. Call it 0 for 163 tries.

The number of COVID-19 patients in serious condition dropped below 100 on Monday, the lowest level since last July as Israel’s world-leading vaccination campaign continued to show its effect.
According to Health Ministry data there were 93 people whose condition was defined as serious as of Tuesday morning, with 58 of them on ventilators.

There were 61 new coronavirus cases diagnosed in the country on Monday, with a further 22 since midnight, taking the total number since the pandemic began to 838,664. There were 1,259 active cases.

Israel registered 13 new coronavirus cases on Saturday, the Health Ministry reported Sunday.

Some 10,000 tests are performed over weekends, compared with 30,000 to 35,000 on weekdays. Nevertheless, Israel had not registered such a low number of new virus carriers since last May. Last week, some 75 to 100 people tested positive to the virus during the weekdays.

On Saturday, April 3, some 124 cases were identified, and a month before that there were 1,878. At the peak of the pandemic in January and February, even on Saturdays, the number of daily cases exceeded 2,500.

Only 0.1% of the tests performed on Saturday returned a positive result, the lowest since the beginning of the pandemic.

In addition to the minimal number of new cases, all other indicators were encouraging.

There are currently fewer than 1,500 active COVID-19 cases, compared with tens of thousands in January.

As of Sunday morning, 102 patients were in serious condition, less than a tenth of the number at the peak of the pandemic, the Health Ministry reported.

Fewer than 10 people succumbed to the virus over the past week. Over a month ago, about the same number of deaths were registered every day. Dozens of daily victims were reported at the beginning of the year.

The virus reproduction rate, or “R,” which measures how many people each virus carrier infects on average, has remained stable at around 0.8 for several weeks, showing that in spite of the extensive openings, the disease is receding.

Meanwhile, the vaccination campaign, which all experts credit with the positive situation in the country, is continuing, albeit slowly. Last week, 10,000 to 12,000 people were vaccinated every day, compared with more than 200,000 every day at its peak. Some 900,000 eligible adults have so far chosen not to get vaccinated.

Some 5.4 million Israelis have received at least one dose of the coronavirus shot, with 5.1 million of them receiving both doses.

The Health Ministry is deliberating how long the vaccination certificates and Green Passes can be extended and when people are going to need a booster shot. The vaccination certificates and Green Passes of the first people who were inoculated are due to expire at the beginning of June.

The ministry is in contact with vaccine makers about the issue, and it has also been monitoring the first two million people who were vaccinated and tracking their infection rate, Public Health Services head Dr. Sharon Alroy-Preis told The Jerusalem Postlast week.

“We don’t see the infection rate going up in that population, but once we do start to see that, then we will know a booster shot is needed,” she said.

Could the double mutation be caused by all these lockdowns etc forcing the virus to mutate n be more infectious so that it can survive?

Unreliable (false negative) test results.

Who knows how many more infected ones out in the wild? :sneaky:

No, lockdowns tend to slow down the spread. There was no lockdown in India. They were doing activities like Kumbh Mela whereby many of them were marinating against each other without any social distancing in Ganges river, creating virus hotbeds. Beyond our naked eye the viruses were copulating like having mass orgies n giving birth to mutated, stronger n more infectious covid strain.

They knew it was coming, but :
-they are prepared to trade a few hundred sinkie lives for the economy
-they are fearful of antagonising india
-they are cock sure of hospital ICUs not being overwhelmed

Yes, however, the new India variant is not from last year. It occurred shortly after they stopped social distancing after mobilizing a huge vaccine drive for the population there. The vaccines needed to be properly stored at -70 degrees Celsius otherwise it wd be ineffective. If u hv worked in India, u will know that they do things differently there n negligence in SOPs can occur at a frequent level. So most likely a huge portion of their vaccines are probably the same quality with placebo effect.
