A few years ago I bought a Fuji Xerox color laser printer. Back then they were still quite large. The colors are not as vibrant as a inkjet, but you don't have to worry about the ink drying. It's also cheaper than inkjet printers because you get thousands of pages.

I now use a B&W laser, a HP Laserjet P1102W. It's much faster than the color laserwriter. When you power up a color printer it makes alot of noises & it jams more easily than a mono printer. My color printer is now sitting in the corner because someone moved it & now whenever I try to power it up I get feedback that there is a jam:confused:

So if you decide on a color laser writer be careful when you move the printer:(

so in your opinion, should i get or not? i need some black and white document to look professional.:o

I would recommend a laser printer because of the quality of the output & cheaper price per page than an inkjet. You also don't have problems with the ink drying up. The difficult choice is choosing between a color or monochrome laserwriter.

A color laserwriter will always be slower & less reliable because it has more parts than a monochrome laserwiter. Every page has to go through the printer at least twice. Only you can decide if the extra time is worth it. There is also the extra cost$ of consumables.

Whichever printer you choose I recommend you check with those companies at Sim Lim which are selling re-fill toner/inkjet cartridges. They can tell you which models they support so that when you need to replace the cartridges you can get it cheaper from them.

When you wanna buy a laser printer, make sure the cartridges are cheap, HP is a good brand....

i was a strong supporter of HP due to its performance at my workplace, thus decided to get one and put at home. but the later series of the colour laser i got is like shit, jam like fuck which i have no freaking reason why. i only used it for about say 4 years.

i will go see & check around tomollo, thxs bros!

I just want to highlight some issue with laser jet Printer :

Cost :
A genuine color toner will set you back by $50 to $100
A black and white toner will set you back by $50 to $60

The replacement for a printer toner drum can set you back by ($50 per color ) X 4
Then over time, you have to change your fuse and belt of color laser printer, which will easily cost you another few hundreds bucks.

They say each toner can last you 2500 prints ...... , but base on 5% per print on a single page. That means your black color can only contain 5% of your each print.

Think we have been con big time .......

I'm using the CANON MX350 All-In-One (bubble jet) printer. Ever since I modified to the CISS (Continuously Ink Supply System), I'd never look back. It's much more economical than using the original CANON cartridges. However, do note that you will risk your warranty being void by CANON if they will find out about the modification.

The third party inks are also much superior and cheaper than the original ink cartridges.

how did you modify to CISS?

HP laserjets used to rule printing world. Not the new models though. If you can find a 10-20 year old laserjets and and its still working. Use that. If not go for one of these.

how did you modify to CISS?

As I'm now staying in JB, so I did my modification at Danga City Mall. Just bring my printer to them and it costs RM55 (~S$23.50) to modify with 100ml of ink for each of the 4 colors. In addition, you can also buy extra 4 x 100ml ink supply (in bottles) for the 4 colors for only RM20 (~S$8.50) for this deal. Normal price will be RM40, ie: RM10 for each color.

They will need to drill small holes into the old ink cartridges to insert the ink tubes. Overall, it's quite nicely done up with no messy ink tubes dangling every where. If 1 day the ink cartridges go kaput (which will happen eventually), then just purchase a pair of new original CANON ink cartridges from them and they will do the modification again for me without additional charges. The existing CISS setup can still be reused.

thks dude!

what about samsung printers, any good?

problem description of my printer:

recently, i just changed both the cartridges for my hp 5550, it's quite a good printer. apparently, the ink indicator keeps on blinking. i have double checked that i have inserted the cartridges correctly. so what could be wrong with it? can anyone with similar problem in the past, please help to diagnose? thxs!

Sorry, no experience with Samsung and HP printers before. I'd only used CANON and EPSON printers. EPSON printheads will easily clog after about 1 year of usage.

The problem with older laserwriter models is that by todays standard the built-in processor is slow. This is going to affect print speed especially if you are using postscript typefaces.
