"We hope you will understand why we took four hours even though we are very competent," Mr Khoo told reporters. He reiterated that the problem was "not because of a lapse of maintenance".

He said there were installation and design issues with the platform screen doors which the contractors did not take care of, such as misalignment of door leaves. Some technical issues that new trains faced included a faulty antenna system with signalling problems.

He said: "I wouldn't say we have no problems. We have problems but we are managing these problems quite well."

thats the most arrogant and limp wristed excuse...now that they have fare hiked approved and sealed...they won't bother as much

in terms of public image, they are second only to Tiger Airways
