Noodle eatery suspends operations after viral video of rat in sauce container

A self-service instant noodle eatery has suspended operations for pest control, after a clip of a rat scurrying inside a sauce container went viral.

The incident occurred at about 12.45am on Oct 11 at Midnight Noodle Club, a customisable instant noodle restaurant located at 60 Tessensohn Road.

A diner said that she and her companions were about to finish their meal when they saw a rat dart across the floor.

They proceeded to alert a staff member, whom they said smiled and did nothing. As the group of diners did not see where it went, they stayed and continued chatting.

The diner later noticed the rat on the sauce table, prompting her to record the sighting. The video shows several open sauce containers on a counter, and a small rat can be seen moving back and forth inside one of them.

While she wanted to notify the staff members, there was no one available. The group left after waiting for 10 minutes. "I was shocked and disgusted by the sight, as this poses a clear public health risk," she said.

Eatery temporarily closed

The eatery told The New Paper that it has suspended operations temporarily as a precaution, and will work with the landlord to take the necessary actions.

A restaurant spokesperson added that it has discarded all items that might have been affected by the incident.

SFA investigates incident

In response to queries from TNP, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said that it is investigating the incident and encourages the public to report concerns about food safety practices.

"As part of the enquiry and gathering of evidence, SFA may engage the feedback provider for more details and will not hesitate to take enforcement action if sufficient evidence has been obtained," the spokesperson added.
