[h=2]City planner urges Singaporeans to expect ‘higher population density’ in the future[/h]Posted by temasektimes on May 4, 2012
Despite crumbling infrastructure and an obvious decline in the quality of life, Singapore is going to accept more immigrants in the future and Singaporeans have no choice but to accept it.
Speaking during a forum organized by the Institute of Policy Studies, Singapore’s former top city planner Liu Thai Ker said as the country’s long-term population projections had been outstripped much earlier than anticipated in the masterplan projections, Singaporeans will have to break the psychological barrier to face issues of higher density.
”If we remind Singaporeans the fact that our population size in 1960 was only 1.9 million, today it is 5.2 million. Is our environment worse than 1960 or better? The answer is obvious, it is much better,” he said without substantiating his statements.
He added confidently that with ‘careful planning and careful technological intervention’, Singaporeans will be able to live in a better environment with a higher population density.
“If we do it very, very carefully, the next lap of dealing with further density growth is more challenging but given that we have 50 years of solid experience, personally I remain cautiously optimistic. As long as we face the problem, don’t run away, I feel Singaporeans must not bury the problem. They should face it squarely.”
Meanwhile, Singapore’s public rail system appeared to be falling apart with yet another ‘minor’ train disruption yesterday morning which left commuters fuming again.

Thumbs UP!

Singaporeans are no longer burying the FT-Caused problems.
Singaporeans are 'squarely' expressing discontent with the disruptions due to the FTs.

What he is saying is 6.5 million no problem, it's much better the when it's 1.9 million.

The hidden message is we will go beyond 6.5 million, to 8 or possibly 10 million once the local is only 40% then they no long have a say, PAP will be voted in for the next 10 elections by strong support from new citizens.

It will go down in history books that in 2011 election , the last chance to make a difference and turn the tide was loss, Singapore is not doom because of that, just the locals are doom.

Hougang BE may well be the Alamo, 70% anti PAP votes too much to ask for? :o:o:o

Blardy sh!t.

This @sshole dares to say such sh!t. Obviously he has vested inetrests. he sits on the board of directors of architects firm RSP and URA who would benefit from more cramped housing.
http://www.rsp.com.sg/
easy for him to say when he stays in a landed property/bungalow in prime districy and us suffers from "pigeon holes" housing and astronomical pricing while he and his company reaps millions from the building contracts. Already Singapore is the most populated city in the world. 5.2 m at last count cramped in 50 square Km(not 600 sq km as most people are conned into believing as the rest are used for roads , golf courses, factories, useless islands like ubin, bungalows for rich, stupid cemetries for the dead like Bukit brown, etc). and given the humid conditions far worst than HK.
ask yourselves why pollution, dengue, TB, crimes, everything already going downhill or all diseases and stress increased and quality of life worse and this bugger dares to say improves!!!! he even has the cheek to lie through his teeth. he even once said this island population should increased to 12 million people!!! ALL hell would break loose while he and his cronies sits coolly in their million dollar bungalows and laugh all the way to the bank. think about it!!!blardy vulgar and most obscene statement.

Do note that SG has another world record - highest density of golf courses. Is the FAP willing to close them down free up land to alleviate the appalling overcrowded situation? No? Why?
