Christmas ruined, thanks to SingTel's shoddy service
<!-- by line --> <!-- end by line --> TO PUT it mildly, I am extremely disappointed with SingTel. My husband and I have a mio contract and our home phone and Internet have been intermittently disconnected on many occasions. We called SingTel: Three times service men came and all three times they could not solve the problem. The last service man left wires around my dining room, connected directly to the power box outside my flat across the common corridor and staircase. He said this was only a temporary measure and an installation man would come and fix this last Thursday, between 4pm and 6pm. My husband asked for an earlier date but could not, so with unease, we accepted this. As we had a Christmas Eve party at home that evening, we did not want any mess.
At around 5pm that day, someone from SingTel called my husband, addressing him wrongly as 'Mr Heng' and asked if we lived at Compassvale in Sengkang. My husband said no, he was Mr Yap, we lived in Simei and we were waiting for him to come and fix the problem. He said there had been a mistake and he would ask his supervisor to call us back. The supervisor did not call us back. We had to call SingTel and listen to taped music until our blood boiled before a customer service girl said she would check and get back to us. She did not. We called SingTel again and another customer service man said he would get a supervisor to call us back. Finally, a supervisor called, apologised and said SingTel had made a mistake but no one could come to fix our problem. The earliest appointment was two Saturdays later. We explained many times that this was extremely urgent. So the supervisor threw us a bone and said SingTel would waive our telephone bill for one month.
Of course, we took the waiver but we wanted someone to fix this problem as soon as possible. So the supervisor said the best time he could give us was last Saturday between 4pm and 6pm. To cut the story short, Christmas passed and on Saturday we had to postpone our movie date to stay home to wait for the service man. Guess what, no one came. At 5pm, we called SingTel again and asked where the man was. He actually went to our old address in Bedok North. I was speechless. Well, since Simei is only 15 minutes from Bedok North, we asked the man to come immediately - but he could not as he needed 'to check with the finance side'. The latest appointment is next Wednesday and we hope against hope that this time, something will go right.
