The US has already been monitoring and acknowledging the Russian forces build up at Ukraine's borders (especially from satellite images) since last autumn. Russia won't be preparing all these for nothing. Therefore, there is nothing wrong for the US, Canada (and even other EU nations for that matter) to make Ukraine more prepared. If these lethal weapons had been sent long before the summer of 2021 or earlier, then probably it's too hastened.
