Chinese man sentenced to death in sex slave murder case

BEIJING - A Chinese court sentenced a man to death for holding six women as sex slaves in an underground prison and killing two of them, Xinhua news agency said on Friday.

Li Hao, 35, was convicted of murder and rape in Luoyang Intermediate People's Court in China's central Henan province, Xinhua said.

Media reported in 2011 that the former local government employee kidnapped six nightclub and karaoke bar workers and repeatedly raped them in a self-built dungeon. Two of the six were found dead when a 23-year-old woman escaped and led police to the basement.

Li forced them all into prostitution and filmed them in pornographic videos he put on the internet, Xinhua said. He then instructed three women to kill two of the other captives.

The three women were found guilty of murder but were given lenient sentences. One was jailed for three years and two were put on probation, Xinhua said.

Police have arrested a 34-year-old man named Li Hao on charges that he kept sex slaves in a dungeon buried beneath a residential complex in Luoyang, Henan province. He is suspected of kidnapping a total of six women from KTV bars, murdering at least one, and keeping them prisoner for periods of up to two years!

Local authorities were shocked at how well-designed the dungeon was, accessed through a rented basement in Luoyang city. He reportedly took one year to dig out a tunnel about 60cm in diameter and build a two-room, 30-square-meter cellar four meters underground. He then kidnapped a total of six karaoke hostesses and kept them prisoner.

It gets even more twisted. The girls, obviously succumbing to major Stockholm Syndrome, then became competitive with each other (they referred to him as "big brother" and argued over who would sleep with him each night), and while details aren't clear, at least one was killed as a result of infighting. When police uncovered the dungeon, they found four girls and two bodies - they believe Li killed the second for disobedience. Both bodies are believed to be less than one year old.

Li only fed the girls once every two days to keep them weak, and also occasionally pimped them out - which is how he was caught. One of the girls escaped when he tried to loan her out as a prostitute, and she went straight to the police. Li was arrested on September 6 while trying to flee the city. One of the girls was also arrested as a murder suspect.

Li Hao is married with a son, and while most Chinese sources say he was a firefighter, AFP reports he possibly worked for the city's "technological supervision bureau." [CCP Internet Brigade! ]
