Fourteen prison officers at a jail in Heilongjiang have been punished after a prisoner was found to have carried out “romantic relationships” with a variety of local women under the guise of conjugal visits.
Investigators said the prisoner – Wang Dong – managed to spend time with four women after bribing officers between 500 yuan (HK$628) to 1,000 yuan to fill in visiting forms claiming they were husband and wife.
However, there was not enough evidence to suggest that Wang had sex with the women, cautioned a report by China Central Television that cited an official investigation into Nehe prison.
Investigators said Wang had gained access to five mobile phones that allowed him to organise the liaisons. Three of the phones had been given to him by visiting women – one of these was handed to him under a table, while the other two were relayed by officers in return for 200 yuan. Wang had also been given two phones from fellow prisoners.
Surveillance camera footage surrounding the periods in question could not be found.Officials censured included the warden, the political commissar and the secretary of the Commission for Disciplinary Inspection.
